Vision of the Seas

I will be on Vision, Jan 6, for my first cruise. It's very interesting to see how different everyone experiences their cruise and how diverse tastes run. I believe the cruise lines all try their best to accomodate as many people as possible, keeping in mind that there are those people that no matter what you do they'll have something to complain about. Even some of my friends and relatives have negative things to say about cruises. I'm hoping I don't get jaded by reading some of these boards and start looking for things to complain about. :p

On the whole, it sounds like Vision - Mexican Rivera is a GREAT TIME. I just want everything to be wonderful and magical. :)

The only thing I wish the Vision had was the specialty restaurants like Chops, Portofinos or even Johnny Rocket's. It would have been nice to mix up a meal once or twice during the week. Otherwise we had a great time, the food and service was excellent.

I'll be on Vision 13 Jan 2008. My first time on her, and actually taking a TRIP to get to a ship! I live near Tampa, so that port was super convenient for the Legend, and also only about 2 hours from Port Canaveral for the Sovereign. I have to fly to LA for the Vision, but looking forward to a new and different itinerary from the Carribean and Bahamas. Get to see Mexico from the OTHER side!

Thanks so much for all the pros and cons! Keep them coming! Does anyone know anything about AO for 13 year olds? Im interested to see what there is to due for him other than the pool...any ideas?L

Our 12 year old Daughter does not enjoy Adventure Ocean as much as she did when she was younger. She does not like most of the activities they do now. They do more group activities at this age. Our daughter does not mingle very well, so that may have something to do with it. She would rather play her DS system or go off on her own and explore the ship.

That sounds like my daughter. She is 13. She is an athletic...book worm. If she is not playing sports, she is reading a book in the sun. She is VERY shy. I am concerned about what kind of time she will have. She is used to hanging out with her 9 year old brothers.

I am just wondering from the people that just sailed on the Vision if there were very many kids on the ship?

Both times we went in December, the week before Xmas. There were children on board but it was not overrun with them (like the Disney ships!) My DD really doesn't like AO, so she just runs around on her own. On our first trip we were fortunate to have another family with a daughter a few years her senior, so they ran around together.

Just got off the Vision on Sunday. There were about 12 to 16 kids aboard that were very visible. Ages from 1 year old to 14(?). Some very unruly in the main pool; jumping, running, horseplaying. Where were the parents? We didn't see these children being supervised. But I am sure, if you are at the pool with them and your kids are courteous, they will have a ball.

We really liked the Vision, the food was excellent, as was the service. We love this size of a ship.

Maybe she would like the rock climbing wall. Our daughter spends a lot of time in the pool also.

She loves the rock climbing wall. She is pretty good at it too. I think she will end up spending a lot of time at the pool as well. Either that or reading on the balcony.:)

My husband and I sailed on the Vision on October 14th for our 25th anniversary. The service in the dining room was wonderful! I would agree with one of the other posters that the Windjammer was terrible, crowded, bad set up and not much variety at all. I had been on the Enchantment a few weeks prior cruising with a group of girls and the food in the Windjammer there was much better. More variety and much better quatlity. Also on the Vision you couldn't jsut go in the Windjammer and get juice, iced tea or water like you can on other ships, the waiters poured it from pitchers. On the Vision at lunch all sandwiches are premade where as on the Enchantment there was a deli set up where you could request what you wanted on your sandwiches. One complaint about the Vision was that I really didn't realize how chilly it would be on the last day at sea. Definitly bring some long sleeve shirts or sweatshirts. Solarium pool area was quite crowded the last day at sea as it was too cold and windy to be out on the deck by the other pool. Also the seas were very rough the last day and night. I have been on many cruise and never saw them have bags full of the air sicknessness bags hanging in all the stairwells but on this cruise they did. Ship is small but still has plenty of room and none of the common areas ever seemed too overly crowded. Singer in piano bar was very entertaining! Poolside party was alot of fun. Gala buffet was disappointing though. Casino good but only 1 roulette table so that was crowded a lot. I won Bingo twice the day they were giving away the cruise so I walked away with 900 dollars so that was a huge plus to the trip. Would cruise Vision again but not that impressed with the ports on this itinerary.

We'll be sailing on the Vision March 16...

Never been on this ship before...but we last cruised to the Mexican Riviera in 2002 on her sister ship, the Grandeur of the Seas...

Of course, since that, we have only been on a lot of larger ships or on the Monarch OTS...but we do have a vague recollection of what to expect...and we're not worried about a lot of those little things...

We just love cruising and look forward to the experience...

I know we won't have all of the amenities we just had on the Liberty of the Seas...But we also know it can't possibly be close to as disappointing as our most recent cruise--on the Carnival Liberty. We feel far more comfortable on RCCL than on Carnival...

As to kids, we're expecting there to be a large number on our sailing...Why? It's Spring Break for the Los Angeles Unified School District--which is the main reason we're going that week--my wife works for the LAUSD...

The number of kids you should find on this ship is very predictable--just take a look at the school vacation calendar for all of the local school districts in SoCal...If the kids are out of class, they're on the ship...Easy...

We've been to these ports so many times that nothing will be "new and exciting"...But, the real thrill here is just to get away, enjoy the food, the service, the entertainment...and relax for a week of no worries...

I'll just ignore any of the minor flaws and enjoy all the positives that go with the experience...

Some answers to questions brought up:

Dinner seating: We booked about 3 months prior to the sailing (10/21) and were not able to get main dining--only second was available. We requested a table for two as it is our anniversary--not accomodated.

The ice cream machine (I don't believe it is frozen yogurt) is right outside of the windjammer near the pool area

Kids: There weren't too many on the ship--but I think that it due to the time of year--I would say maybe 2-3 small babies and 10 kids

Running Track: Actually I think you may have some luck here as it seemed fine for walking any time of day and was not obstructed by pool chairs--the only part which might be hard to go around is if you go all the way by the rock wall (people congregate here) however there is a cut through before it so you can take that if it is the case.

I would like to comment that we thought the Windjammer was just fine as far as choices...even though there weren't as many choices the food seemed more hot than it has one some of the other ships I have sailed on--so I will sacrifice more choices for hotter food.

Also I really recommend doing lunch in the Dining room at least on sea days--great food--much better than the buffet!

Also about Mazatlan--I liked it a lot for just walking around and doing some shopping. The Golden Zone area must be taken by taxi but if you are up for a hike and love the little knock off shops, actual Mexican dept. stores, booths ect you can walk around a mile or so to this area. The cabbies will think you are insane and you will get harassed a lot by them walking out but just don't let it bother you. The market area is just passed the Cathedral (which I recommend seeing)--The things I bought while in the shopping area were a pair of the most hilarioius shoes (their are converse knock offs), some bootleg toys (my husband and I collect toys) and also we went to fabriques de francais (I believe this is what it is called--it's pretty much a Macy's) and found some nice candy and other things here.

DW and I were just on Vision 10/7 to 10/14. While smaller and somewhat older, ship was in great condition. All the staff we had contact with were friendly and very helpful. Entertainment was so -so, but we did like Tribute (a Temptations tribute group) and Wilde & Hanes (comedians). We also found the food in Windjammer to be quite good for buffet style food. The food and service in the Aquarius Dining room was great. The soft serve machine was right outside the Windjammer and always seemed to be working that I saw.

Have a great cruise!:D

:p Can't offer any answers to questions, but just wanted to add that we will be sailing on her June 8 -- Mexican Riviera. This will be my first time on the Vision and very much looking forward to it! Anyone else? I started a roll call, but probably too early for very much activity.
