Norwegian Jade Hull Art

What was I supposed to notice in the photo? I missed it. Would you mind explaining what I should look for?
Tom, currently the "Jade" is the Pride of Hawaii, soon to become the Jade. Some of us have been wondering what her new paint job would look like. That sure looks like Jade to me! :)

I am not a fan of the colorful paintings on the hulls of NCL's Ships. I think the ship would be better looking if they painted them not so big and boldly.

The artist rendering looks nice. Just a few weeks ago when I had looked the picture had just been touched up to be all white except for the words Norwegian Jade. It's the EXACT same picture as Pride of Hawaii just mocked up for what it will look like.

On the NCL site, I also notice that the public spaces are de-Hawaiied.

Grand Pacific is main dining room

Aloha Nui Cafe & Lanai is Indoor/Outdoor Buffet Restaurant

Waikiki Beach is Pool

Aloha Bar is Atrium Bar

Wipe-Out is Teen Club

... and the list goes on

I guess it's just a bit of reality in today's cruise industry.

Hawaii will miss her! :(

I wonder if they are putting in a casino?

I think a casino is a pretty sure bet . . . (Sorry for the pun. )

On the subject of the hull art, it took me a while to get over the shock of it when I first saw it on the Norwegian Star in Hawaii in 2003  , but I've grown to really like it. I think it is very distinctive and I also think the ships would look very plain if they were just painted a plain white. These ships are very large and I fear they would look like hospital ships if not for the embellishments. JMHO ;)

We're sailing on Pride of Hawaii(soon to be Jade) in two weeks.

It will be nice to get familiar with her before she leaves Hawaii. And, I really LOVE the Pride of Hawaii hull art.

I'm afraid I'm a purest and wish she didn't have to change. :( Especially since this is my first cruise and I will always feel like I don't really know her once she's Jade.

She is and always was meant to be a Jewel class ship I guess!

Am I weird for being somewhat to the ship I haven't even sailed on yet?!?! Is it because I'm a cruising virgin or does it feel the same to veteran cruisers when a ship they've sailed is re-flagged and/or re-named or even sold to another cruise line completely?

Your feelings for the Pride of Hawaii are normal and understandable. My "first love" as far as cruise ships go was the old NCL Starward. We happened to see her in the port of Istanbul this past summer and it was a true thrill, even though she hasn't been the Starward in a very long time.

My other "true love" was the S/S Norway. Her end has been tragic and difficult to follow as she sits beached in India waiting to be broken up. :(

Ships have personalities of their own. You are not alone in recognizing that! :)

I absolutely love NCL's hull art. Since I cruise based primarily on 1) itinerary and 2) price (in that order), I essentially have no "brand loyalty." I don't care about Carnival's stack looking like a "whale tail" or any of the other things that true cruise afficionados point to in saying "well, obviously that satellite photo is of the XXX because of the YYY feature, and the two white lines outside the blue line instead of two blue lines outside the white line." But an NCL ship, whether I'm sailing on her or not -- that one I can always tell. I think they are fun, colorful, and unique.

I also love the hull art, you can sure tell when it's and NCL or NCLA ship. I will miss the POH too. I hope to sail her as the Jade someday, even tough on a Hawaiian cruise you don't get to enjoy the ship that much, you're off of it most of the time.

Yes, Judy -- since the hibiscus is my favorite flower, I adored the hull art on the Pride of Hawaii. I even blew up one of my photos of it and have it on my desk at school. :) I just hope I have the chance to sail her as the Jade... green's my favorite color! ;) I will say, though, I'm not sure the artist's rendering is exactly what I pictured -- all jade isn't the same shade of green, plus there is white, black, yellow, orange, and violet! I'd love to see a few more colors in there.

sad :(

James, I thought about that reaction, too, as I did when I first heard POH would be leaving Hawaii. On the other hand, at the rate NCLA has been losing money, I'd rather they try even some extreme things to try to turn it around than to lose a wonderful product in Hawaii. The bottom line is that if the "bottom line" doesn't improve, it won't be long before we'll be making sad faces over the new hull art on all THREE ships. :(

Actually, my first two NCL cruises were. I was kind of bummed when she was re-named, but to be honest, I never could figure out what her hull would look like, lol!

I think the JADE is too plain! I would like to see a splash of a few more colors.

I love the art work, I can always find my ship when I head to port, and in Cozumel, that helps after a day of fun there, he he!

We were on the Jade for our first cruise when she was being repositioned to Barcelona. I believe she was originally the Pride of America that was stationed on the Hawaiian isle run. They actually built the casino on board while we crossed the Atlantic
