Shore excursions

I would strongly encourage you to go to St John on your own. The cost is cheaper and it will allow you to be on your own time frame. You may try meeting up with others on the ship that are also looking to do the same and you can share a taxi from the ship to the ferry and from the ferry to the beach or wherever you choose to go on St John.

We bypassed Trunk Bay, the most popular beach, per the recommendation of our cab driver. Instead we went to Cinammon Bay which we thoroughly enjoyed. Much more secluded. There is a hotel on the property where you can grab a hamburger for lunch. There is also a mini grocery store if you'd rather grab a few drinks and snacks for the beach.

Unfortunately we have not been to Tortola. We are taking a land vacation to St Thomas in Nov and hoping to make it to Tortola for a day. Looking for recommendations as well. Anxious to hear what others have to say!

There are definitely good reasons to go to St. John on your own. It will cost you less and your time is your own. Take a taxi from the pier to Red Hook, grab the ferry to St. John and then get another taxi to take you where you want to go. You do this in reverse when you come back. Just keep an eye on the ferry schedule and make sure you allow plenty of time to get back to the ship before it sails.

Yindella .... For the first trip to Tortola most people want to go to The Baths of Virgin Gorda. It can be done either on your own or the ship will have an excursion. Don't know the age of your child so that could be a factor if very young. There is a thread in the Ports of Call section .....

.... with a site for info on The Baths of Virgin Gorda which will tell you more than you would ever want to know about The Baths and what to expect when you get there. Also, the MAP is fantastic!

Hope this will help! Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)
