Has anyone else noticed Carnival's new suggested "Formal Dress" criteria?

And why do you suppose they build ships and sell cruises? What possible reason could a company have for doing such things.

I guess they only sell excursions so you can learn about new places.

They only sell drinks so you won't get thirsty.

Take away profits and we're all back to living in caves.

Now, now Dan, I'm almost sure they do all this for my sole amusement! Just like the casinos were built so I can become a millionaire! :p

i dont have that info on my e-docs printed yesterday.

To me I think you all are getting a little worked up for nothing. While I agree that it is good to present yourself in an appropriate manner I also understand that there are a lot of new cruisers out there...myself being one, that might not understand the concept behind formal night. They may be unprepared and unable to dress that way. They left those clothes at home. It's a freakin vacation by the way.

Maybe this would be an appropriate night to dispose of the seating arrangements and have ushers that will seat formal guests in a seperate area from the guest that choose to come wearing their cruise attire.

If I am to understand correctly, Dining room dress is supposed to consist of slacks and shirt anyway? So how different is it if someone throws on a noose and sports coat over the usual?

I get the impression from the way you all comment that people are showing up for formal night in shorts and t-shirts? If in fact they are dressed for a normal night in the Dining room, well, then I would vote that formal night be forever banned as it seems to just bring a boil under the skin of some.

I am trying to be as polite as possible on here and not ruffle feathers. While I do agree with you all on the subject, I do not however feel it is such a crucial mistake that we need to make these folks walk the plank.

My edocs have the old information. I also agree with Embre that it is disrespectful to not dress appropriately for formal nights. It is only 2 nights on the cruise that you are supposed to dress up, every other night and all day you can dress like a slob

So you consider anyone not dressed in formal attire to be dressed as a slob? Interesting.

Sorry, but I don't buy that "new cruiser" reasoning. Every cruise line provides informational material (either in paper docs or e-docs) about what dress code is expected and what guests should pack. If, for some reason, the "new cruiser" didn't happen to read this and didn't bring anything appropriate to wear, the polite thing to do would be to dine elsewhere on formal night. Yes, they will be missing out on something that others receive, but it is their own fault that they didn't pay attention to the materials that were provided to them so they could pack accordingly. Appropriate dress is the price of admission for those particular dinners.

But maybe they thought formal night was a special event in another dining room? I dunno. Not making excuses for them, Just offering an option instead of thinking of them as inconsiderate slobs.

Maybe I should rent a costume for my formal night and go as Batman?

To say they're dressed as a slob is incorrect.

To say they are rude, crude, socially ignorant and inept, and lack self respect as well as respect for others and are exhibiting terrible manners. And are violating their own given word. All that would be correct. :D
