Have you ever been given a bad cabin

when booking a guarantee? We are planning to book 2 cabins, one a balcony on Liberty for next year. I understand that there are several balcony cabins with obstructed views. I read about people getting upgraded but haven't heard of anyone getting a really bad cabin in view or location. Is it worth the risk and how much of a savings is it?

We've always had a specific cabin booked, so it would have to make a significant difference for me to risk it.

We've booked guarantees and have been pleasantly surprised to be bumped up a catergory or two, and there have also been times when we got the category which was guaranteed. You're the only one who can determine the risk/benefit for paying a lower price. If you are concerned about being satisfied with a guarantee cabin, you should book a specific one.

I wouldn't say it was a "bad" cabin but it did have a support beam near the foot of the bed and when I got up in the middle of the night and forgot it was there, I smacked my head into the beam. No major injury but I woke up really fast and it could have been worse. Sorry I can't remember which ship but it was a Junior Suite about 3-4 years ago.

Someone posted a picture of a cabin like that and I would agree, THAT'S a bad cabin.

In 1995 on the Majesty, we were with a group of 8 and we were all kept up the first 2 nights. We were forward on the ship on deck 4. The anchor and chain were banging around the locker below our cabins. The seas were pretty heavy and after it calmed out we never had a problem. Never complained because it gave us an excuse to stay up and party-we were younger then.

Vision class. We had one of those Junior Suites on Grandeur. I just didn't like the pole because it blocks the TV view. I think I walked into it at some point, too. :D

A balcony guarantee is pretty safe, you might likely get a stateroom at the very front or the very back of the ship. Obstructed view from a balcony is usually the window washing equipment. If you really hate your assignment, it is sometimes possible to go back into the "pool" to try for a different assignment. You have to weigh the cost savings versus your preferred cabin choice :)

The worst cabin was at a little place in Montana. The roof leaked around the chimney and dripped all the time. We got 4+ feet of snow during the week and had to shovel the roof twice. The outside temps warmed up to 0 degrees f during the day, but at night...Brrrrr. The wind would howl enough to wake the dead. And to top it off, the cook (me) was LOUSY!

Cabins on any cruise ship I've been on are much better in all respects.

Balcony guarantees and guarantee staterooms in other categories are not offered on all sailings. They are sometimes offered for specific categories. So you will probably book a specific cabin....and at some point a guarantee in that category MIGHT be offered. Only you can judge the savings or the pricing. :)

LOL!! That does put things into perspective! I was kind of wondering how much difference there is in the price. That would make the choice easier. If its a couple of hundred for the total price it might be worth a try once. I guess I will check it out when we are on Voyager next week:D .

By the way... we sailed on Adventure several years ago and loved it. The decor is beautiful ( I loved the movie theme in the casino... look for the ruby red slipper in the floor as you enter) That was the ship that hooked us on voyager class and on balcony staterooms! Don't miss the sea aquarium in Curacao.. we have a TS there.:)

What Cabin was this? We have a Junior suite on Grandeur reserved for July. It's #8528. I hope we're not in for this same surprise!!:o

Once your cabin is assigned you can change cabins as long as it is the same catigorie. I have done it many times without problems.

Happy sailiing

How soon before the cruise do they assign the rooms usually?

Thanks
