Do you prefer a certain deck?

My first 2 cruises on The Empress I booked inside deck 8. I found it conveniently between the top deck (10) and the casino, shops, the strike up the band lounge for shows, and dinner (decks 5-6).

This year I booked a guaranty and got inside deck 4. The cabin is the same. Now I was conveniently located on the same floor as my dinner table and between the purser's desk, schooner bar, casino, s-u-t-b lounge (deck 5) and the gangplank to leave the ship at port (deck 2).

I don't mind the stairs. Quite frankly, somethimes they are much quicker than the elevator.

My lesson learned: For an inside cabin I don't care what deck I am on (for The Empress at least). Next time I will spend less on the cabin and spend more in Bermuda!

I understand if you want to be in the middle or aft you may have to pick a different deck based on availability. Assuming you had choice of the ship, does deck matter that much to you?

Personally I try to avoid the deck right below the pool deck. On the enchantment, you could hear a fair amount of noice from up above. Anyone with lead feet or moving chairs around you could hear. That was the last time we will book on that deck.

We usually prefer any deck with a balcony midships, but have had circumstances where our cabin was toward or on the aft of the ship, not always by choice. We also prefer to have at least one deck between our cabin and the Lido deck and whichever deck has all the indoor activities. Again, we don't always get what we like due to varying circumstances. :)

As long as I'm on board---anything will work for me. I have been on different decks, inside, outside, balcony, windows, portholes.......you name it.

When I booked the Jewel for February, I could have had an outside cabin--balcony---but---I went with deck 4. Our first cruise--we had the main level--on Rhapsody---and I found watching the waves pass out the window so awesome. Our last few cruises have been balcony cabins---which are nice---but you can't see the waves---and whitecaps---like you can when you are right down near it......To me---that was one of those things I would like to re-live. Besides---we don't spend much time in the cabin--other than to sleep and shower...... Best to put the extra $$$ for buckets of brewskis.......

Oh, poo! I'm on deck 8 on Enchantment and I believe that's right under the pool deck but we're aft so maybe it won't be so bad...

I prefer to be on as high a deck as possible. On our Majesty cruise next month, we'll be on Deck 10. I have slight claustrophia issues and prefer to be up where I can get outside quickly. On Carnival, I ALWAYS book on Empress Deck. I don't think I'd ever book an inside cabin either unless it was on the highest deck on the ship. Just my own little idiosyncrasy (sp?).

On Vision class, I like Deck 4, as near as possible to the Centrum. That way, a few steps from your door and you are right into the lounge area, usually with music playing - very nice. Dining on same floor, 1-2 flights for the theater, casino, lounge, etc. , take the elevator for the high stuff. Makes Deck 4 seem perfect!

My personal preference is to be on a deck with cabins above and below. It just seems like it'd be quieter, sort of insulated from public areas. Having said that, we were on the deck below the lido/pool deck last year on Galaxy and didn't hear a peep. You just never know.

Aft should be ok. The gym is above it and unless something is right above you thats makes noise your ok..

I loved loved loved 4042 on Grandeur for many of the same reasons stated above -

steps from stairs/elevator

1 or 2 decks down fom promenade (although a few people ignored the do not jog signs at 6 am:o ), casino, purser, theatre

same deck as dining room, lounge

For our next cruise I purposely chose a lower deck for these same reasons. I found the aft elevators are usually quicker when you need to get up to the pool deck etc.

We booked a JS one deck below the pool area on our last cruise on the Vision of the Seas. I will never do that again! :( The room was great however you'd have to go to great lengths to prove that there was any sound insulation in the ceiling. The noise from above was horrendous! It didn't matter what hour of the day it was - it was just plain noisy.
