Tallinn - Transfer from Cruise Terminal to Old Town

From other threads, I understand the cruise terminal is not far from Tallinn old town (2 miles?). I also understand that the taxi's will rob you if given the chance. Is there an alternative (other than walking )? Where is the best place to catch a taxi back (I assume it will be some place outside of the Old Town.

It;s not a cruise terminal, it's just a dock.

No buildings

Taxi's will be outside the security perimeter..

take it up to old town and then walk down, it's not that hard

a walk back to the ship as it's all down hill

The ship does have a shuttle that goes back and forth to

lower town, BUT my suggestion is much more efficient

since you have limited time in port!

It's nothing like 2 miles - I think no more than 1 mile. You can see the town from the berth so you can't get lost - but as the other poster said, it is uphill into town but only the last bit once you get to the big tower. It's pretty flat until that point.

It is mentioned on the Tallinn website that the Tourist Ticket is available at Terminal A. Is this at the docks the cruise ships use? You mention there are no buildings where your ship was. There is a free sightseeing tour included in the Tallinn card that I am interested in starting the day out with. Will I need to get in to the city tourist office to buy the card? Since the tour leaves from Terminal A, I am hoping to just buy the card there and jump on the bus. Anyone have experience with this?

Also, the Tallinn Card includes an Audio Guide of the Old Town. Has anyone used this? I have Rick Steve's book which I hear is a good guide, so I am wondering which is better to use. Thanks!

maybe my memory is going...

but I really don't remember seeing a building...

BUT

maybe they have built it in the last year....

that's always a possibility!

A free sightseeing tour is always great, but if you read the Rick Steves Walking Tour and other books on Tallin I think you should be fine!

There is a T1 in Lower Town around the corner and down the street a tad from City Hall, BUT it didn't open until 9am..

which could throw a wrench in your timing.

If the site you were looking at has an email, I would send them one to clarify everything...

Have a wonderful trip!

K.

Terminals A-D are used by the ferries to Finland and Sweden.

Cruise ships are docking just outside the top edge of this map (note the cruise gate symbol on the map). The Old town is on the left edge of the map.

On this map you can see the cruise ship berths (24, 25)

These websites are great. Read a bit further into the link provided and you'll discover a pretty funny take on cruise passengers. And bonus - a new word for Trivial Pursuit! Have a look here:
