I Tried For The Upgrade And Lost

I made final payment a few months back for an AB on the Dawn leaving this Sunday. Since my final payment, I found that the fare we paid is now $1,000 less.

I saw an earlier thread here that had some people calling NCL about the fare decrease and were upgraded. So I asked my TA to call and she said that NCL is the only cruiseline that doesn't do anything if there is a fare decrease after finaly payment.

I am hoping my TA really did call and is not blowing smoke. Does anyone know? And why did some people get it?

Anyway, I am excited about my trip no matter what happens.

You're going to be on the Dawn this Sunday right? How many people are in your party? The only higher category that sleeps more than 2 people is the Garden Villa and both are already taken. So, there would be no chance for an upgrade (upsell) if there are more than 2 people. If it's just you and one other, then the AA would be the next highest category. And, they're probably taken, as well.

On a side note, our AB went down $500 after we made final payment. I called my TA, who called NCL and we received an additional $200 OBC (for a total of $350 now). I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

follow on from earlier thread about the same subject my TA didnt even call ncl and assured me that he had already given me a large discount, so i feel my hands are tied, no upgrades at present appears ship is pretty full, oh well it was worth a try, by the way we havent paid final balance yet.

just for the fun, i peeked....doesn't look like anything, above you, is available. only the lower level suites are showing up. i don't even think about upgrades or upsell, if i ever got the call...i would miss it or faint!!!

last cruise, the ship had only a few suites...they were sold out before i booked and all the top level balconies were sold out. that's what happens when you pick a popular ship at a popular time.

have a great cruise...at least you can enjoy it from the suite you have.

Thanks for the info. I just emailed my TA and told her to call back and get it done. LOL. I will let you know. $200 OB credit sounds pretty good to me.

My TA just called me and told me that its a no go on the credit so you are very lucky. Good for you.

If you have not made final payment, NCL will do something for you.. May be an upgrade.. maybe a refund...maybe an onboard credit.. but they usually will do something if you haven't made final payment and the prices have dropped.

For the one who posted who said their TA advised NCL is the only one in the industry that will not refund, upgrade, etc, they are partially correct. Once that final payment is made, NCL is pretty stern (no pun intended) about not doing anything. There are those that have lucked out, but over all, once you make final payment, it's a done deal.

I am on that same sailing. I changed my cabin last Monday (the price dropped and I paid the difference on a higher cabin). Wen the price that I paid on Monday was lowered. No refund and no upgrade. Oh well...I won't check the price this week:( (and I've been in the Travel Business for 35 years:eek: )

See you on Sunday:D

Come to the Bimini Bar at sailaway...the casino won't open till we get past the bridge. That takes about an hour or so.

Hmm, I guess I may be one of the lucky ones...or one of the PIAs that can't let things go until I get my way. For my Jade cruise in 2 weeks the prices dropped a good bit after booking on higher cat cabins after final payment was due. I called my TA and asked if I could upgrade and pay the difference, they called NCL and NCL said ok. 3 days later an AFT Balcony became available for $100.00 more, again I was able to upgrade. Then the price dropped $400.00 for the cabin grade I just upgraded to. I had my TA call NCL and ask about a ship credit of the price drop, NCL said no. My TA called me back and said they said no, but it was after hours when she called, she said we should wait until regular business hours and call back the next day. When they did that NCL said okay to the OBC of the full $400.00 price drop. There have been others on this cruise that have been able to get OBC for prices drops

It is a RARE, RARE time that you get anything after final payment. Though I can not blame someone for asking, they should NOT be upset. And they have ZERO reason to demand anything.

You and the cruiseline AGREED on a price, cabin and sailing. The contract is sealed. If they are trying to sell the last few cabins at a discount to fill the ship, that is their option. They should not be required to lower the price for everyone else. If they did, they would not bother to lower the price and sail with empty cabins. Their profits will drop, and prices for next year will go up even more.

Simple business.

my problem may be that as i am in the UK the TA said that they bulk buy reservations at the start of the season and that they base there figures on how much they can make on top of that and my TA is still convinced that we recieved a lower price than NCL can give, but looking at the NCL website the prices still seem lower but what can one do :D , im sure we wont have sleepless night over this

I would show up at your TA's office (1,000 dollars is a lot of money) and have them ring a supervisor at NCl whilst you are there letting them know you are not happy. I then would change your travel agent, a good agent does not take no for a answer. Enjoy NCL, we always do.

sweet. Can you PM me the name of a "good" travel agent? I want one that will get me the garden villa as a free upgrade.

If you don't get something you want, even though you are not entitled to it, you have a bad agent? Not sure I get the logic.

I was promised a upgrade to a penthouse from my mini-suite by my TA but when it came time for the upgrade I didnt get it because my TA was expecting NCL to just upgrade me which we all know would never happen, so NCL gave me a $100 obc which doesnt satisfy me because I do not want NCL to have to pay for the lie my TA told me, I want my TA to pay for the upgrade I was promised by them!

Booking with an online TA that has a price guarantee is one way of making sure you get the lowest price.

I had found a price that I thought was lower, but it wasn't once tax and travel insurance were added. I didn't need to make the call (or send the email as the case may be), but I was glad to know that I still had the best price, and if it wasn't I did have recourse.:)

Good business is to keep your clients happy, no one wants to see a price fall of 1,000 dollars after final booking . Travel agent rings NCL, client does not want a garden suite just a little recognition, travel agent gets client 200dollars OBC. NCL and TA have a happy client = more buisness in the future.

You are right. My TA didn't do her job the way I see it. She called after hours, said she spoke to a supervisor and NCL refused to do anything. Maybe a new TA for the next trip. Thanks for all the advice.

Not the point Gary. The point is that NCL shouldn't pick and choose who they will give upgrades to for price reductions. That is bad business. Now that I know that NCL does that, it will probably affect my next cruise.

Somewhat related and perhaps a silly question (no flames please);

we're cruising 4 to our cabin (sleeps 4, but I'm certain more comfy with 2!), if a room next to ours is empty at time of sailing is there any likelihood of "upgrading" in to that room? Will it likely cost an arm and a leg or is it maybe a wash to NCL?

Worth asking about in advance or having TA ask in advance? (sailing this sunday)

TIA
