Egypt - web site

The best web site I have found re: Egypt is @

http://www.ask-aladdin.com/tips.html

I used this site extensively before our trip and then, on the trip we were fortunate to have Aladdin (originator of the site) as our tour guide.

We toured Egypt in March 2008 with Vantage. The tour included land as well as Nile River and Aswan Lake cruises.

It is a very physical trip with early morning start times, lots of walking on sand and uneven ground, large tour groups, etc; however, it is an amazing trip!

Happy to answer any question.

Thanks Robthens, that is an excellent web-site. I am just in the beginning planning stages for a trip to Egypt and really enjoyed reading some of the material on the web-site. It is so extensive that I will gather a lot of information from it. Not sure I would have found that one without your help.

thanks,

Another great site is www.Tripadvisor.com and more specifically, the Egypt forums at:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g294200-i9124-Egypt.html

The only negative thing I can mention is that it is flooded with posts about Sharm El Sheik. However, just above the posts there's a tool to select specific Egypt forums (ie. Luxor, Nile River Valley, Cairo, Alexandria, etc.)

By using that tool, you can narrow down the posts quite nicely, and you'll find you have yet another web site to keep you addicted for hours and hours on end!

And yes, my 15 day trip to Egypt thread is on there too: :)

Happy reading! Glad I could help feed your addiction, LOL!

You might also look at http://www.touregypt.net/ which is a very comprehensive site with both travelling and historical information. It's not a casual browse type of site (in my opinion, but that might just reflect my internet capabilities!), but seems to have articles on just about everything - last time we visited Aswan, I searched for information on the tombs of the local nobles, and it came up with maps, pictures, descriptions, the lot.

Another site to view is http://www.thebanmappingproject.com which is a comprehensive guide to the West Bank at Luxor, and includes fun stuff like aerial views of the tomb fields, and virtual tours of some of the King's Valley tombs.
