Any NEW Carnival Conquest Reviews Out There???

We are sailing on the Carnival Conquest next month and would love to read some recent member reviews on this ship. I checked the "Reviews" section of the CC site and the most recent reviews are the same two from 9/4 that I've already read. I did a search and came up with nothing new. It shouldn't have to be this difficult! There's got to be some recent cruisers out there. I wish we had the old reviews board back.

Mfinn, you posted what I was thinking:). I do believe we are sailing on the same date, 11/28. Would love to read some recent reviews also.

Are you doing any excursions and if so are you booking through Carvinal or independent? We haven't done anything yet but are looking to do it ourselves. Would be the first time so am doing alot of research!

Well, hope we get those reviews before we leave ;).

Hi Julie!

We are not booking any excursions through Carnival because going on our own is so much cheaper. This will be our second time on this same itinerary. This time we are taking my husband's parents along.

We are planning to spend the day at Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. In Grand Cayman, granted we are still stopping there, we are planning on taking the island and stingray tour with Native Way. I heard from Sharon with Native Way and she sounds pretty hopeful. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed. In Cozumel, we are going to Chankanaab Park so my DMIL can swim with the dolphins. I would like to stop by Paradise Beach and then do some shopping if we have time.

Are you staying in NO before the cruise? We are staying at the Hilton. We watch the Conquest leave NO every Sunday on the webcam. Can't wait!!!

I hope there are some new reviews before we leave! I have lobbied to get a new reviews board started since it seems that no one is using the other "Reviews" link on the CC website, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen.

See ya in The Big Easy!:)

BF (post as preauto) and I will be on this same cruise. I've also been wondering about the lack of post regarding the conquest. We will be staying NO night before, staying at the Fairmont. We can hardly wait, woohoo:) First cruise for me...have been getting alot of info from these boards. Still haven't decided about booking excursions (diving) thru ship or on our own.

We are also on the Conquest 11/28. I have 2 little girls and a MIL so we aren't do any excursions through the ship this time. We will see you at Sunset Beach, Paradise Beach and not quite sure about GC yet. Hopefully we will be able to go to GC because this is my favorite island (besides St Maarten for the jewelry). We are looking forward to the casino as the last cruise we took - Disney - did not have and my husband was bored to death.

Any docs received yet?

We're staying at the Holiday Inn French Quarter with 80,000 others who are coming in for the big football game. Should be a mad house in NOLA that weekend!

My DH and I were on the Conquest Sept 26- Oct 3. This was our first Carnvial cruise and we were pleasantly surprised. The ship was in great condition. The crew was wonderful. The only dissapointment was that we could not go to Grand Cayman, but that was not anyone's fault so we just enjoyed a day at sea and was thankful for the beautiful weather.

Jamaica- We went to the Sunset Beach Resort which was lots of fun. Food, drinks (with or without alcohol) pool and beach for only $20.00 pp. I had thought seriously about staying the ship while in Jamaica because of all the things I had heard about crime and drugs but decided to try Sunset Beach. I am glad we did it.

Cozumel- We shopped in the morning and went to Chankanaab in the afternoon to snorkel. I would swap things around next time since we found that we were in port at 7:00 and shops did not open until 9:00 or 9:30. We wasted alot of time waiting for the shops to open. Really good snorkeling at Chankanaab.

Days at Sea - very relaxing. We worked out in the gym in the mornings, enjoyed the sunshine on the deck, played bingo and went to the art auctions (free champagne) :D

The food in the dining room was good but not wonderful. We went to the dining room every night except one. I thought the food was pretty bland tasting. Some dishes were better than others. By the end of the week our table was ordering several entrees and desserts each. Our waiter "sonny" was the best.

You will have a wonderful time on the Conquest. I am ready to book another one.

Welcome to all 11/28 Conquest Cruisers!

Shellgoodman, my DH told me about the football game in NO that week-end. It sounds like it's going to be crazy!! The more the merrier!! We are going to St. Maarten in May. What type of jewelry do you buy there? Is it a really good deal?

Thank you, TNCruiselover!! I appreciate your review. I will post one upon our return.

For those of you that just got off the Conquest recently, do you have any capers to share? I know there are some on webshots, but they are from January. I would like to see some with the altered itinerary.

Hubby and I were also on the 9-26 sailing of the Conquest. It was our first cruise. We had a blast. Of course, we have nothing to compare it to, but having entire week to ourselves, with nothing to do, nowhere to go, and not having to clean up after ourselves....how bad could it be? We had an oceanview room on the Riviera Deck, or the "cheap seats" as my hubby called it. The only complaint about the room was that it was never cool. It wasn't hot, just warm. After several days at the Purser's desk, we were given a fan (supposedly 1 of 4 on the entire ship!) and a letter offering us a discount on our next cruise.

When we arrived at the NO port, (1:15) the line was very long. The porter said it was going to take three hours to get through the line. Hubby nearly fainted. However, it took exactly one and a half hours from the time we got in line until we set foot on the ship. The FunPass is a must!!! Our first order of business was to see the Maitre' D (I have no idea how to spell that) to change our seating to a table for two. That evening, he had a temporary table for two for us, then the next evening, we had our permanent seating.

The food in the dining room was always good. The buffet food was, well, buffet food. If you want quality, eat in the dining room. If you want quantity, hit the buffet line. The pizza was okay. The rubens at Paul's Deli were the best I've ever had. I had three during the course of the cruise. If you see cheesecake, eat it. It's great.

In Montego Bay, we wasted our time and money by going 'downtown' shopping. We did not spend alot of time there because we felt so uncomfortable. People hounding you to death just is not fun for me. We took our purchases back to the ship and then went to Sunset Beach. We really enjoyed it. You could see the damage done by the hurricane, but overall it was a nice place. The jerk chicken was really good, just have a drink nearby. Take your own cup or else you will spend your time running back and forth to the bar. When I set my big cup on the bar, the bartender smiled and said, "Mon, I been lukin' fo dat cup oll day!" If you drink alcohol, you MUST have a 'nuts and berries'. It is the best drink I've ever had. It's Jamaican rum cream, amaretto, and blackberry liquer. MMMM!!!

No stop in Grand Caymen. Just another day in the sun!

Cozumel, we spent a couple of hours shopping at the port stores. One of the ladies in a store suggested that we go downtown for a wider variety and better prices, but after our experience in Montego Bay, we decided against it. Besides, I was ready to get to Paradise Beach!!! And boy, was it paradise. That place is so nice and clean. Service is great, food is great (nachos!) Definately the highlight of the trip, even though Tom wasn't there.

Sorry this was so long. Gotta end now, bedtime. Any questions?

I too would love to see more recent Capers if anyone has them.

mfinn- Shopping is terrific in St Thomas and St Maarten so get that wallet ready! Gold, David Yurman, diamonds, and tanzanite were some of the good buys. Two years ago I had my engagement ring reset in St Maarten. At first my DH was a little hesitant to purchase there and because he didn't want to spend the money. Then he realized that I had priced it out in the states and he was saving half of what he probably would spend in the future. We were a little late for our early sitting on the Disney ship due to the reset but it was so worth it!!!

My DH is so thrilled that this time I can't get into any shopping trouble on the Western cruise. I saw a big sigh of relief but I'm sure there will be other ways to spend on the Conquest!

We were on the Conquest sailing 9/12. Hurricane Ivan was still deciding where to go.

Embarkation was a breeze. Sail away was quite fun. Monday at sea we were told we wouldn't be going to Mobay; but would still be going to Grand Cayman.

Not to be. We ended up with Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Progresso. Not too bad (although some pax complained)

The food was a disappointment. (JMO-Dining room and buffets.) (Good Pizza!)

On board activities= quite fun. (Art auction, casino, shows)

Spa = good

Ports= fun--We didn't do any shore excursions because we didn't know where we would be each day;but shopped , rode around, did the beach in Playa del Carmen and hit some good bars and restaurants.

We had a Cat 12 suite. Extremely spacious. (whirlpool tub, bidet, bar, etc) That part was excellent:p

Anything else you wanna ask?? email : samtubbs@yahoo.com

We were on the 9/26 sailing. It was our first cruise, so nothing to compare it to, but we had a great time. We stayed at the Hilton Riverside prior to sailing and wished we had more time in New Orleans than we had.

The ship was beautiful and after a day we had learned our way around, except for every once and awhile we couldnt figure out how to get from one end to the other. They were always cleaning in nooks and crannies that I wouldnt have even thought about. Everyone (staff) were very friendly.

I will try to write more of a review later. I have all of the capers but dont know how to post them. If anyone can clue me in, I will try to do that.

Mfinn, I'm still checking on excursions. About decided on Paradise Beach and shopping at Cozumel. Now just need to find something on the others. For right now we are staying at a LaQuinta in NO. Checking out others options though. Being there is a game that weekend we may just have to stay with that.

Can you give me the address for the webcam in NO. Would love to see it.

Do you know if their is a log book we can sign on Conquest?

Talk to ya later.

Julie

I think she means the book that was left by a Cruise Critic member inside the library (I believe it's been done on all the ships). It's there for other members to sign to say, "I've been here". Everytime I got around the library, it was closed or there was a private party being held so I don't know where it is located.

Hope that answers your question! :D

cali-croozer ~ We took the tour at 11:00 and were back at the ship at 3. We then went shopping for an hour and got back by 4:30 (we didn't have to be on the ship until 6:30). If you take the first tour, you'll certainly be able to spend quite a few hours at Sunset Beach Resort and relax. :)

I added a few pictures to our webshots of the Canopy Tour. Their printer wasn't working so you had to purchase a disk full of your entire groups pictures ($20). We didn't feel like seeing everyone's pictures so we only got a few shots with our camera (one while I was on the line). Not much but it's something. :)

Enjoy your cruise! :D

I just read a new "member review" of the conquest. From the home page of CC there is an area that says "member review of the week" which was of a princess ship, and then "other member reviews" which had about 4 reviews of carnival ships listed in addition to reviews of HAL, NCL, & RCI. The one on the Conquest was very positive. Hope this link helps/works!

(Actually, in going back and trying to do this again, I think going to the community page 1st of all helped the most in finding the reviews.)
