stecee Posted July 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2008 Hi We will be going on our first cruise in Feb with Ocean Village around the Caribbean. What currency do we use when we go ashore? Is there one particular currency that is widely accepted in the Caribbean? I know there is a money changing facility on the ship, but I fear the comission rates will be high.We plan to take some US dollars as I am sure I have read that this is accepted most places but I want to be sure. Thanks for your replies.
Rare silentbob007 Posted July 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2008 I'm not sure where you are going, but most areas around Caribbean cruise ports take US dollars no problem (will have prices in both). If you want local currency, an ATM may give you a better rate than an exchange kiosk.
kitty9 Posted July 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2008 You do not want to get, or need, the local currency. All the islands work in US dollars, so that's the currency you will need the most of. With bank charges for currency exchange, you really don't want to bother getting any currency other than US dollars.
cb at sea Posted July 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2008 US dollars rule--no need for any conversions!
