purchasing onboard credit

Hello,

I am sailing to Alaska in 7/09...would it be to soon to purchase these "gifts" for myself? Thanks for your responses!

Why would you want to tie up your money for a whole year? You should keep it in the bank and then apply it shortly before you sail.

unless its less temptation for you to spend it--you just keep it in the 'bank of princess' for a year. interest rates aren't gonna make you much money( we're not talking huge sums here are we?), so if you want to get a head start on paying for those shore excursions, drinks, spa treatments etc, go ahead.:)

I actually have the money for the cruise in a money market account, so it is drawing interest. I also have a credit card that I earn airline miles through. I thought if I could purchase "casino credits" in advance with that card throughout the year, and pay off the card monthly, which I do anyway, I would be earning more miles towards my flight to Seattle. Thanks again for your suggestions!!

We are booked on the 17-day Emerald Transatlantic in April. We would probably be in the casino quite often since there are several sea days. Sounds like a good idea purchasing Casino credits ahead. We're thinking of buying some each month. Does anyone know what would happen with the credits if for some reason we had to cancel the cruise?

  • 2 weeks later...

I noticed today on Princess' site under onboard gifts where you buy the casino credits, and flowers etc, they are now selling gift cards in denominations of $25 $50 and $100 or any combination.

It does state that they are not actual gift cards delivered to the room, but will be added to the on board account as a credit.

Guess someone at Princess was finally listening.

Cheers.

It's strange. I called Princess Sunday about purchasing gift casino credits. I think it sounds like a great idea. When I asked the rep about purchasing gift casino credits, she didn't know what I was talking about. She put me on hold. Then when I asked about turning them in for cash if I didn't use them up, etc., and she put me on hold. Then she said they could not be cashed in. I told her that didn't make sense. What if I didn't lose them all or won (fat chance). She said I'd just lose them at the end of the cruise! Guess I'll call back and try again. I find that when I call Princess their reps seem to tell you whatever they want. From the start we almost didn't book our cruise when we were given misinformation about the cost. We were told we couldn't use a special fare that was $2,000 less. Called back to another rep and was given the fare with no problem! Have a great day.
