Another View on Tipping Issue

If the service is truly "outstanding" the auto-tips are not nearly enough to show proper appreciation. I consider them a baseline for decent service. Most of the crew we interact with regularly (room steward, waitstaff in traditional dining) have always received an additional tip from us.

If you have a complaint about service, they can be removed in whole or in part from your account. They are completely optional.

What if the service is not exceptable? Do you leave the auto tips on? I am not trying to complain. It seems to me there is no incentive to give outstanding service.

If you have a problem with the service, why wait until the cruise is over? A rational talk with the maitre d' or the pursors office can resolve service issues rather quickly. Not being disrespectful, but I find that many cruisers look for the smallest incident to rationalize in their mind a reason not to tip.
