sailor602 Posted November 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Did anyone hear or read this article about the bridge height limit leading into the new port at Shanghai? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=96510518 Would the Tahitian and Ocean make it under this bridge (165 ft / 50m)? paul929207 Posted November 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Yes, the Pacific, Tahitian and Royal can make it up river. We docked about 30 minutes from downtown Shanghai. Larger ships have t dock about 90 minutes away.
Pam in CA Posted November 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2008 This is just one instance among many that the larger ships are limited in where they can dock and go, stunting some wonderful cruising experiences that those on smaller ships can have. A case in point is if you do a Norwegian fjords cruise: the Grand class ships can't get into the fjord to see the "Singing Rock" as they don't fit under the bridge at the mouth of the fjord. Druke I Posted November 4, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2008 And don't forget Montreal, Canada. The larger ships can't go that far, due to a low bridge, so many of the cruises uses Quebec City as the end-point. One of many reasons I am not a fan of the behemoths.
