Emerald Princess

I'm thinking of booking Emerald Princess the last week of Nov 09, I understand it's the week before it's going in for dry dock. Can anyone offer any info on their experience on this ship. I am particularly interested in a post that I read from someone being unhappy that the staff did not enforce rules in non-smoking areas of the ship and poor ventilation of smoke in the casino. Thank you.

I'm not sure they don't enforce any smoking regulations but the casino just plain stinks from the smoke no matter when you're in it even on a non smoking night. Some of the lounges are smoking in one corner which can affect the whole lounge depending on how many people light up at one time which can be quite annoying especially if you can only manage to get a seat somewhat close by. At least the main show lounge & dining rooms are completely non smoking but just one hint, if they want to seat you next to the door in the dining room, you're likely to get some smoke during the meal as the smokers step outside for a quick one between courses.

Was on the Emerald last year...yeah, in a few spots on deck if you were on the "smoking" side you could smell the smoke, but never ever saw people going in and out during dinner and they couldn't go right outside the door and smoke anyway as the doors lead into hallways....I don't smoke, and I never really even noticed it in the casino...that would never stop me from booking...going again on the Emerald in 14 days!

Thanks for the info. My travel agent told me about the dry dock.

As far as the smoking I'm not happy about it, but still considering booking. The problem is I just came off of the Solstice and am spoiled as there was very little smoking on the ship. However, I like to try new ships and am looking for something I haven't been on yet. Solstice was absolutely beautiful and our experience was very good, however it was a little more sedate than we are use to. Daily schedule and entertainment was nothing to write home about. The food was great but the excitement was lacking.

Yuck on the cigar smoke!

I don't know why the old Carnival Paradise, which use to be a completely non-smoking ship didn't make it and had to switch to smoking. You would think they would drop the smoking especially due to the fire hazards that they have experienced. Oh well.....obviously it works for them.

If I wind up with a smoker next to my balcony I'll totally loose it.

During our recent 10-day cruise on the Emerald (this is our second time sailing on her...you can guess that we LOVE the ship!) they had at least two nights where the casino was "non-smoking". I didn't find all that many smokers and smoking is allowed only in certain areas. But, it is the luck of the draw during any particular sailing.

If you didn't detect the left over stench in the casino from the previous nights then you're obviously a person who isn't that affected by the odor & is very tolerant of smoke.
