Ocean Spirit Posted February 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2009 We are thinking about cruising next January to the Eastern Med. with ports in Rome, Athens, etc. on the NCL Jade. I'm interested in knowing how the weather is this time of year and any information that you can share on the cruise and ports.
CintiPam Posted February 25, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Rome in January averages a daily high of 52 and low of 40, not too bad, but only 13 days of no rain. Athens would be OK. The Greek islands are pretty shut down with the season long over. To me, a cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean in January is an oxymoron. But to each his own! Rare HeinBloed Posted February 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I think it's nonsense to give any weather forcasts for January 2010... Since we have global warming the climate changes so fast... January Sicily and Istanbul had snow!!! We were in January 2007 in East Med Sea: Genoa moderate Naples all rain - but cats and dogs Piraeus sunny and nice Rhodes sunny and nice Alexandria/Cairo not so nice - little rain Tripolis just great Rome showers So that does not mean that you will have rain or sun again when you are travelling... Regarding Civitavecchia and Rome some information here: http://heinbloed-cruiseguides.blogspot.com/2009/01/civitavecchia-italy-getting-to-vatican.html Regards, HeinBloed
Poconolady Posted February 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2009 We were on the Jan 25 Eastern Med cruise on the Jade. Our daytime weather was low 50's and extremely windy in Barcelona pre cruise, rain and temps in mid 40's F in Rome, sunny and mid 60's in Athens, Izmir and Valletta, sunny and high 60's-low 70's in Egypt, cloudy and high 50's post cruise in Barcelona. We dressed in layers and were comfortable in all ports. Sea days were usually sunny with temps in low to mid 60's, just warm enough to lay out on deck in the sun, eat on deck at lunchtime, enjoy the hot tub, etc,. Its a great cruise to great ports--just pack lightweight clothes that can be layed on, or taken off as needed, and you will be all set.
