Does Carnival throw a Bon Voyage Party at departure?

My fiance and I are going on our first cruise this January aboard the Victory and we are trying to get a handle on typical festivities the first day/night. We're travelling with a large group (who is joining us for our wedding on Day 5) and would like to arrange for everyone to meet somewhere before dinner on the first night. Is there normally some kind of Bon Voyage or Welcome Aboard celebration organized by the ship or should we be looking to plan our own party?

Now - you're just a few years too late for the big bon voyage parties they once had. Years ago, a band played, streamers were tossed from the ships, BIG party atmosphere. It's still a fun time, BUT not the big deal it once was. There should be music at sailaway, but that's about it. Grab a foo-foo drink and make your own party!:D

And your friends use to be able to come to the pier and even visit the ship before lift off. But no more.

Thanks for the quick answer (and well wishes) Any suggestions on a good bar/lounge before dinner that first night? Are the bars usually open before dinner? We'd like to let people know in advance where we will be meeting.

They are always open. About the only thing closed is the casino and shops.

The bars will reopen back up after your muster drill. (they close during that)

 

Also- if you have early seating youmay miss saila way. I had early seating and always seem to miss it.

 

Two lounges come to mind-- Adriatic Lounge and Ionian Lounge (which is nicer) Few people use these lounges--especailly dirung the day. the Ionian has a bar.

I second the motion for the Ionian Lounge. It was always empty and quiet in there. Real nice atmosphere too.
