Live from Jewel of the Seas

Recommended Posts

goodml,

Just found a picture of the kiddie pool in a different post, its image 7 in http://public.fotki.com/bdb36/radc/

I think the photos are from Radiance...

Does anyone know how deep (or shallow) that thing is?

Brandis,
Wonderful pictures!!! Thank you so much. How do you compare the Jewel with the Brilliance? We were on the Brilliance Nov 2003 out of Miami. She was BEAUTIFUL. I did notice that the Filet Mignon at Chops was not as thick as we had. Ours was sooo thick maybe twice or 2 1/2 time more than the picture.
Of course I was in the hospital the week before because I threw out my back. I was on meds that made me feel like Ozzy Ozbourne. My husband did agree with me however that the filet was much larger.
One other question, why are Barts photos so beautiful? Is he a photographer or is Fotki a better photo share site?
Once again, thank you for giving us the opportunity to dream. It is still raining and dreary here in Boston, MA. USA.
Thanks,
Nancy

Nancy,

It is hard to say as the two ships are very similiar. I guess I like them both about the same.

I thought, Jewels Solarium is nicer and of course everything felt very new. I prefer Brilliance's artworks, they were a bit more interesting. Also, the dining room seemed roomier on Brilliance.

Now, I probably should experience the other Radiance class ships so I can really compare. :-)

A question for the fortunate guys that have just sailed on the Jewel:

Do you know if they charge extra for mini-golf (and how many holes is it?)

Do you know what they charge for the rock climbing wall?

Thanks!

Not sailed her so far, but soon
I don´t think RCCL charges for the minigolf and the rockclimbing on any of their ships.
Hope this can be confirmed by Marc, Frederik and German Wunderkind.

I recall seeing nine holes and there is no charge for either that or the wall.

In my personal opinion Celebrity appeals to a more settled crowd. Let me explain it because English is not my native language and I want to make myself understandable.
You’ve been on the Summit. What did you thought of all your fellow cruisers? Where they very sportive, did they have good manors?
I’m pretty sure more passengers were (at least a little bit – depends on the sailings) in there 50 than in there 20 and 30’s and had good manors. The staff wore uniforms and a vest. In the dining rooms they are mostly European trained and know how to serve the dishes correctly.
If you look on your Activities & Events planner you will find dance classes, Acapella and Guitar music.
Have a look at this thread
http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=927093444&f=408097554&m=747105861 and look at the daily planner of RCL ships.

There is more activity for a younger crowd. More sport and fitness activities are scheduled. The staff i.e. wears only a shirt. There are daily announcements over the PA system which activity is scheduled at which time of the day.
The staff is very friendly but in my opinion not so well trained than the Celebrity staff.
Maybe you understand now that the basic concept is the same but there are certain differences between the lines.

I think that everybody can be happy to take a cruise and he/she should be able to enjoy a cruise on Royal Caribbean but if you really like frosh legs, butler and concierge service and all these other small things Celebrity provides I would recommend to stay with a more upscale and personal cruise line.
I hope you know what I'm talking about and that the information is helpful.

Thanks for the responses. I understand well what you are saying wunderkind about the difference and that is something we are thinking about considering how much we enjoyed the "mellowness" of the Celebrity experience. However, it is not to say that we could not also enjoy a different atmosphere, and that there is only one "perfect" cruise. I do think it would be fun, especially with children to at least try the RCI experience and from the various comments here, the Jewel of the Seas sounds like a great ship to try!

I didn't read all the posts here, but someone asked about the Godmother for the ship. I don't remember the woman's name, but she is the "Teacher of the Year."

You should say there is no charge for the mini golf and rock wall as of now, but with all the negative changes RCI is implementing, the no charge could be changing real soon. It seems that every week RCI is taking something away.

Hi Brad.

As far as charging goes they used to charge for Minigolf on Legend and Splendour but the charge was dropped. Yes Chops, Portofino and J.Rockets has a charge, but I think it´s worth it. If you don´t think so, don´t eat there. Can you give any more examples of how RCCL is downgrading their service? It´s not really every week is it? I think they are doing a great job and always remember that there are hundreds of other companies to choose from.

Fredrik

Just a couple examples, going to one menu for the entire cruise, moving the towels from the pool to the room, eliminating the turn down service the first day. And some old stuff, no more soft drinks included in the dining rooms, the JR thing. Were saying, whats happening to our favorite line??

Hi Brad,

Just got back from a cruise and menus kept changing, towels were plenty by the pool, but if I must bring one from the room I will survive. We did have turning down and the only reason why turning down on Voyager is unnecessary is because it leaves at 10pm and boarding is after 5pm. Why shouldn´t you pay for softdrinks with dinner? That is what the sodasticker is for and I pay for my beer... As for JR it is strange because that food ought to be cheaper to produce... Fat is still cheaper than real food.

The only thing at JR that we had to pay for was drinks and milkshakes? Did that chnge? And if it did, it does not matter. Royal is the best cruise line for the money in my eyes. Maybe I am spoiled but I know what I like. I have always had turning down. Even on AOS which left from San Jaun at 10 p.m.
