Live from Jewel of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody!

We just docked at the Pier in Hamburg after cruise number 1 for the Jewel of the Seas. icon_frown.gif

And what a fantastic ship this is. We had sunny weather all the days - ok we had a cold wind as well but all in all it was a very good first sailing.

We did not have any technical problems and even if there is some work still going on on the ship it is already beautifull. Service was a little slow on this cruise and there were so many german beer drinkers on board that they nearly ran out of Heineken from the tab (in some bars they only had bottles last night) icon_biggrin.gif

We I return home later today I'll try to put on some of the pictures I took on my homepage.

BTW the captain was Thore Thorolvsen and the CD was Ken Rush

Hi, I’m back at home. icon_frown.gif

First the good news: I just finished uploading my pictures to my homepage. I’ll try to post them later in a better/higher quality but until then you can follow the link in my signature.

Merion_Mom & NHTraveler

I’ll try to give you a quick overview. We had cabins 4060 and 3124. Cabin 4060 was a cabin for four but only occupied with two and 3124 was a cabin for two. There were virtually no problems with 4060. The couple there didn’t hear any noise from the Centrum area. Only one thing to remember. 4060 is next to a door which is used for boarding in some ports. It was not used on this cruise but the area is used to store certain things during a cruise. The couple told me that during the second night someone went into that room to get or search for something and that it was so loud that they woke up from the noise.

3124 was totally different. There was some annoying cracking noise to be heard during the whole night and even sometimes during the day. It was so loud that we thought we tried to sleep right over a pig pipe belonging to the air conditioning system. I don’t know what caused the constant noise but it was loud enough that we slept only 3 hours the first night.

Concierge: I’ll believe that concierge service was not available during our cruise. At least I never saw anyone using the lounge. But maybe I was there not at the right time. Can’t tell you more about most of the crew because there was no list in the Compass. I had to ask around and even some of the senior staff members didn’t know who the Captain was on this sailing.

Food service: In my opinion good. Not as good as on my last Constellation cruise but the taste and quantity was good. We had steak, salmon, tenderloin, cod and everything was cooked as ordered.

At the moment Jewel has only a reduced wine list but they will get their normal stock of wines n the near future (at least that’s what my waiter told me).

Service in the dining room and some of the bars was a little bit slow. At certain times there were ten or twelve people waiting to order their drinks with a full bar right behind them and only one bartender working at the bar. But 15 Minutes later all our fellow elderly German cruisers had their Heineken and were satisfied.

Fredrik

I doubt I will be able to write a complete review but if you have any specific question I’m happy to answer it.

One thing - look in your documents. Do you have luggage service in Oslo?

Because in Hamburg we didn’t had it and the check in was a nightmare with all those suitcases.

If you have questions regarding entertainment: I want to post the Compass on my homepage as well but I think it’s not there before the weekend.

I wish you a wonderful cruise and I’m sure after Navigator and Splendor you’ll like the Radiance Class. And if not: send me your tickets for the Brilliance and Serenade icon_biggrin.gif because this class is my favourite.

Danke fuer die Komplimente.

Sorry we did not get that paper. I was expecting it also but they didn't put it in the Cruise Compass. icon_frown.gif

Some people seemed not to know their officers at all (see other posting).

Maybe Fredrik can ask these questions for you on his cruise.

By any chance, did anyone "let the cat out of the bag" as to who the godmother will be for the Jewel of the Seas? Inquiring minds want to know!

Live aboard Jewel now...

I was amazed when I saw yesterday, how much beer they hauled aboard, but I guess Wundekinds comment explains it. They also received delivery of more deckchairs for the solarium...

Boarding seemed a bit unorganized yesterday, but thanks to being Platinum member, we didn't have to stand in line much. Yesterday, the weather was great, today it's windy, cold and raining. But we still enjoy the cruise very much. Took a lot of photos, will post them at my site www.brandis.org later on saturday.

See ya all later!
