LAX Marriot Hotel

We stayed here years ago on our wedding night because we had an early morning flight the next day. But for a pre-cruise hotel, I would suggest staying closer to the port (there's some hotels recommended by others in San Pedro and Long Beach).

A major reason I wouldn't suggest staying here is that if you want to go exploring or want to go to a restaurant that's not at the hotel, you will have to spend money on a taxi. There's nothing around here, and you won't want to be walking around in this area. If you stay near the Port of LA in San Pedro (or in Long Beach, where Carnival sails out of, but has interesting attractions such as the Aquarium of the Pacific), you can walk around, find a decent restaurant, even stop at a store for forgotten items. And jump on the hotel shuttle in the morning for the port. The disadvantage is that none of the hotels in this area will pick you up from the airport so you'll have to get a shuttle or taxi.

Aloha everyone!

We'll be flying in a day early for our Hawaii Cruise out of San Pedro.

Princess booked us at the LAX Marriott - Airport.

Anyone stayed there??

Comments - good or bad would be appreciated.

If you are just getting in late night, don't need to go anywhere, are just going to eat in the hotel restaurant, then go to sleep, wake up and take the Princess Shuttle to the pier in the morning it is fine.

If you are getting in earlier in the day, you want to sightsee, eat at a nice restaurant, etc. - it's terrible.

Here are actual pictures of what is in walking around that hotel:

There is nothing LA sightseeing nice around there, no good restaurants, etc.

If you have a whole day and want to sightsee, then you'd be better staying around Santa Monica or Venice Beach.

If you just want nice convenience for your cruise the next day, with more to do in walking distance from the hotel...

Then stay in San Pedro:

All of these hotels will give you much nicer areas than LAX, and lots to see and do in walking distance.

Hope that helps give you literal pictures that help!:D

We stayed here in May 2007. Great hotel. Free transfer from airport. For sightseeing we had the concierge book our tours and the tour bus picked us up from hotel (and dropped us back). Two restaurants and coffee shop. We had room service one night and it was quite reasonable.

We caught the free shuttle back to airport and caught the shuttle bus for Celebrity from the airport. No dramas.

Would not be my first choice for a cruise out of San Pedro. Like the others have said, there is nothing within walking distance. It is one of the better hotels near LAX though. If you do have to stay there, the Marriott does have a decent sports pub called Champions that serves late. About a block and a half down in the Sheraton is Shula's Steakhouse which does a real good steak, a Ruth Chris type of place. A cab or rental car is needed to see anything else besides planes taking off and landing.
