themerle Posted June 21, 2009 #26 Share Posted June 21, 2009 I'm happy for all of you that are getting to go to Alaska in 2010! :) I wish I could go but I know my DH probably won't go again next year. I would go every year. Alaska is so beautifull..............I'll never get tired of going! I know all of you will love your cruise to Alaska no matter which ship you're on or what week you go. Italy52 Posted June 22, 2009 #27 Share Posted June 22, 2009 In my mind I have my itinerary all planned out. If family obligations don't get in the way - trip #5 to Alaska will become a reality. :D
AlanAllyn Posted June 22, 2009 #28 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Thanx cw2go - I'm counting on you waving your arms and shrieking with delight as well! LOL! We sail May 31, 2010 and believe me, it can't come soon enough! So excited for those new ports, as well as other ports that are "new" to us - we've not been to Skagway before, nor have we sailed Tracy Arm, so that will be interesting and fun as well. Plus, we arrive in Victoria at 2PM, which will be very different than arriving at 6PM and leaving at midnight. YAHOO! Gonna be fun!:D Perhaps we will cross paths in Seattle. We are booked for the June 14 sailing of that cruise. Alan and Allyn
Assateague Island Princes Posted June 22, 2009 #29 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Hi Brunolvr, Yes, its a wonderful itinerary - see below: 5/31 - leave Seattle 4PM 6/1- Sea Day 6/2 - Ketchikan 7AM-5PM 6/3 - Tracy Arm sailing 6/4 - Skagway - 7AM-6PM 6/5 - Sitka - 8AM-3PM 6/6 - Sea Day 6/7 - Anchorage - 7AM-11PM 6/8 - Homer - 10AM-6PM 6/9 - Kodiak -7AM-1PM 6/10 - Hubbard Glacier 6/11 - Juneau - 8AM-5PM 6/12 - Sea Day 6/13 - Victoria, BC - 2PM-8PM 6/14 - Seattle, WA We're sailing on the MS Amsterdam - a smaller ship as compared to the Vistas. HAL has "Anytime Dining" option, which we will take advantage of given the port-intensive cruise. We are not formal folks, and after 2 cruises to AK, have decided that we have no intention of taking formal wear for the dining room. Last cruise we only ate in the main dining room once, the rest of the time we enjoyed casual (and wonderful!) dining in the Lido - no need to dress up there, yet very elegant dining experience with linen table cloths, candles, etc. You go thru the buffet for your appetizers, salad, soup, etc., then you order your meal, are escorted to your table, where the main course is then served to you. If we didn't eat in the Lido, we ordered room service and ate on our balcony which was a true pleasure while sailing Alaska. So much to see with that llllloooooonnnnngggg daylight in early June. Spectacular!!! Room service on HAL is great - a full menu, and you can even order from the dining room entrees if you call during the first hour (I think....) of serving in the main dining room. We never felt rushed or like we were "missing out" on something by eating in the Lido vs. the main dining room, plus we saved lots of room in our luggage by not carting formal wear. The one time we did eat in the main dining room was on smart casual night - my husband wore dockers and a collared shirt, while I wore a skirt and light sweater, and we felt right at home. Please join us! I have a feeling it will be a trip of a lifetime (until next time - LOL!!!:D)
Beach4me Posted June 22, 2009 #30 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I just booked the Radiance 14-night Ultimate - Sept 2010. I keep thinking "it's not that far away". Then I look at my reservation on RCCL's website and see it's 446 days from today. Ugh!!!!

LVSue Posted June 22, 2009 #32 Share Posted June 22, 2009 brunolvr:WOW! A 14-day cruise to Alaska--that sounds great. On which ship? What is the itinerary? Does HAL offer any type of dining that isn't so dressy? That is, besides the buffet? On HAL ships, there are only 2 formal nights per 7/day cruise, and like Assateague Island Princes, my SIL and I get room service--same fancy food, comfortable surroundings. Otherwise, we just get presentable to eat in the dining room, which can include jeans. (They call it "smart casual.") We are taking the same cruise as AIP and are so excited about the new ports, AND the length of time in all the ports. I am not wishing away the days, however--I'm enjoying savoring the anticipation. FurryPetMom Posted June 22, 2009 #33 Share Posted June 22, 2009 We are also going on the 14 day itinerary out of Seattle on HAL, 5/31/10. This will be our first cruise and I am learning a lot from these boards. I am busily doing research on the ports and do admit that I feel a little overwhelmed. Next year will come soon enough! :)
brunolvr Posted June 22, 2009 Author #34 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Thanks for all the great info, everyone, about Holland America. That 14-day cruise is a great itinerary!:) For some reason I thought HAL was still formal every night--maybe because their ships look so formal dressed in black & white!;) We have only cruised NCL (so far) and love their suite service with Concierge, Butler & VIP perks. Is room service "free" on HAL ships? Yes, there is a lot of fun in the anticipation and planning of your cruise!:)

Assateague Island Princes Posted June 25, 2009 #46 Share Posted June 25, 2009 Hey FSDJ, I KNEW you couldn't resist heading back north again!!! LOL!!! Good for you! Sounds like you and your family had a blast and everyone wants seconds (....or thirds....or fourths....). So happy for you! Wish you all could come along on the 14 day adventure, but I understand the limitations of your wife's own business won't allow it - rats! You go and have fun with the in-laws (and outlaws), it never gets old, does it???:p Alan and Allyn - yup, we'll be like ships passing in the night in Seattle (pun intended!) and I'll be the wacky one waving my arms, grinning from ear to ear, and embarrassing my husband and friends! Just think, if I'm this excited NOW, what the heck am I gonna be like next May??? Alaska, here we come! :D
MCManders99 Posted June 25, 2009 #47 Share Posted June 25, 2009 I am planning a B2B on Princess (Vancouver - Whittier - Vancouver) or 14 night out of Seattle. Will probably go last week in May and first week in June. At least that is the plan. I will probably wait until spring to book it. Hey Coral. I remember asking you all sorts of questions from our Sun Princess 2005 cruise. I think you were on a week or two before us. At that time, it was our first cruise, and now we are going back to Alaska, but unfortunately not on Princess.

It was a beautiful ship and the food was, without question, the best that we've had on a Dam Ship. Keep watching for specials throughout the year and if you use a TA, tell her to put you in the que for an upgrade. We were able to score some verandah cabin upgrades for out kids and a suite upgrade for DW and me.
