Coup in honduras (MERGED THREAD)

yes, if Carnival cancels the port.

The only instance that Carnival has offered passengers the ability to change ships and sailing dates for a port change has been when the entire itinerary has been changed. Missing Roatan would not be a reason to allow passengers to switch ships in this case. Carnival has been known to bend or alter their rules on a per case basis so it wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

Once again' date=' please find a political forum to discuss politics. This isn't it.....[/quote']

This entire thread about what has and is happening in Honduras and the whole Central American region relates to the Honduran Government, the taking power from the President, a new President , new cabinet members and so on, THIS WHOLE THREAD IS POLITICAL , Are people supposed to pretend it Harry Potter and post things like " Will we be going to Roatan due to the , Things happening that shall not be named "?

This is a wonderful stop to go to. I agree with the earlier post. Its an island, away from the mainland. We did Fins and Flipper and had a wonderful time. You were escorted from the pier to another one, short walk for a boat over to a small island that was fantastic.

I agree~!! So far this has been my favorite port stop. Simply gorgeous and what a relaxing day we had there!!

The US Embassy has escalated this from a wardens notice and is now a travel alert. They recommend citizens defer all non-essential travel to Honduras until further notice and that those already there remain close to their homes or hotels unless their travel is of a life or death nature, or a scheduled departure from Honduras

This had me rolling!

It seems like G'ma doesn't understand how the world works, he must live in a fantasy word... or a cruise ship!:D

My cruise is scheduled for Roatan in January I hope things settle down or the destination is changed soon so people can make plans!

Actually it should be safer there. The coup got rid of the socialist(dictator) who is like castro and chavez and someone else I won't say. My friends there say it is much safer now and the media is allowed to be free. So I hope Carnival continues to go to the beautiful Honduras.

You are all missing GMA's point. She was responding to the quote above, in which Trailcruiser was implying Obama was a socialist dictator along the lines of Castro and Chavez ("someone else who I won't say"). Those particular political views have NOTHING to due with Honduras, and should not be aired on a cruise forum.

Nope, Not missing the point at all,

GMA made the same comments about keeping politics out of it in reply to this post as well

GMA

For someone who has no problem giving opinion (you are one of the biggest dictators on CC) I think calling the removed leader a dictator is not political...it is fact... he wanted to change the laws by decree to allow himself to be the lifetime leader, just as Castro and Chavez have done. Trailercruiser just stated it should be safer since the dictator has been removed. In my opinion Trailercruiser is right and saying the island should be safer is appropriate to this forum and this thread

.

This whole thing revolves around Honduran government and politics, how can it be left out?

I think that Roatan is so cut off from mainland Honduras that at present there should be no need to cancel visits to Roatan by the cruise lines. This coup has been brewing for a long time and what with the recent earthquake I was also wondering if my visit on the Valor would be cancelled on the 17th of June but everything went ahead as planned and we had a great visit to this beautiful island.

The Carnival Valor is due to visit Roatan tommorow so you can look on the Valor web cam tommorow to see if it does indeed visit Roatan. Here is the webcam link:-

Just returned off the Valor on Jun 28th. Second time I've been to Roatan. They are very hungry for the cruise ship business. I would only leave the port area with a ship tour or one of the liscensed tour/cab people at the docks. Never had any problems but best to be safe with the unrest in this country.

Main Street has cleaned up alot from last year. The new pretty colored buildings at the dock have some shops & a restaurant. And a pharmacy. They advertise better prices than Belize and they are. Not as many different items as Belize. Do not Rx shop at the docks in Cozumel, very high prices.

Isn't this illegal anyway?

I was told once by a cruise passenger that one couldn't get Rx in Cozumel without a Mexican prescription, not that I care, ours are cheap and covered by the provincial / private programs here in Quebec.

FWIW I'm curious, why would it be illegal to fill a US prescription anywhere the rightful patient wanted to? I can understand if it's a matter of getting prescription drugs that aren't prescribed by a doctor for someone, but since when is it the gov'ts job to tell someone where to shop for their prescriptions?

It is illegal, depending on the amount brought back, partially atleast I think because our government FDA has no control over, nor knowledge of, what is put into the medications, or how it's made. http://www.nacds.org/wmspage.cfm?parm1=3046 http://phoenix.about.com/cs/health/a/mexicodrugs.htm

You can get pretty much anything and everything you want in Cozumel. They'll ask if you want "something for your brain?"

Prices were not good though. For grins and giggles I asked how much a 30 days supply of ambien is. (I have a script for it, but only pay $5 because I have private insurance.) They wanted me to pay $120! And I couldn't even be sure it was the right stuff, you know?
