6:30 a.m. flight-YVR

I would hazard a guess of at least 2 hours before departure, perhaps more. You have morning passenger traffic (which is heavy from west coast airports at the crack of dawn), security screening, plus you will have to clear US immigration and customs. I'm sure one of the YVR locals will provide specific guideance but think in terms of all of the processes you will be going through that morning.

Yep 2 hours minimum is the least you should give going across borders from YVR

We did Van-Anchorage last year but it was later in the day and we arrived 2.5hrs before flight which was good as it was very slow getting through security

My DH and myself are flying out of YVR, to Anchorage, on 7/17 at 6:30 a.m. How early should we plan on being at the airport? Thank you!

You are obviously flying YVR-SEA-ANC since the only non stop YVR-ANC flight is later in the day.

A quick search of Alaska Air's website answers your question:

http://www.alaskaair.com/Destinations/CityGuides.aspx?city=YVR&show=airportguide

Two hours with checked luggage, 90 minutes with just carry on, and the ticket counter opens at 4am so no reason to get there before 4am (2-1/2 hours in advance) unless you like standing in line to say you were first :)

I took AS702 (same flight you're on) a couple of months back and got to the airport around 04:30. The checkin lineups were quite long, USA pre-clearance wasn't too bad. However, you don't need to check in at a counter, use one of the kiosks, and you're through it in no time. It prints out your luggage tags, and as you need to carry your luggage past checking through USA C&I it makes no difference to use a counter vs a kiosk.
