Voyager 7/12 review

Embarkation:

We arrived on the red-eye from JFK-NYC in Barcelona around 8:15 a.m. It was easy to get a taxi, and the taxi-driver spoke enough English to get us to the terminal with no problem. We were at the terminal by 9:15 a.m. One of the Royal representatives told us they would start taking the luggage at 9:30 a.m. We simply waited over to the side in the shade. At 9:30 a.m. the porters gave us our luggage tags and took our luggage. We were told that at around 10:00 a.m. they would start checking people in. There was a little sidewalk cafe at the terminal and we had some coffee to wait until checkin. The checkin was according to cabin number, and there were several available agents checking people in. We had pre-registered so it took five minutes. We went to the waiting area until 10:30 a.m. when they started boarding passengers. This is where the dutyfree shops that people purchase water to take on board is. One more stop where they take your identification photo, and you are onboard. We were a little surprised that there was no Royal employee to welcome you onboard and tell you where to go. Of course, we knew to go up to the Windjammer for lunch. There was the standard selection of buffet fare.

Cabin:

We were located in an E1 balcony cabin on deck eight. We were glad we splurged on the balcony-- it was a welcome respite after long days of touring. The cabin had a little sofa/sitting area, which added to the spaciousness of the cabin. Our cabin steward always kept our room neat, and we had several adorable towel animals made for us.

Meals:

We chose Traditional Dining for this cruise. We thought it would be interesting to talk to our tablemates about the wonderful placeswe had visited during the day, and we were correct. The one thing that that could have been a disaster is that we were placed at a table with six women travelling together, my husband being the only male on a table of 8! We had a wonderful time each night and lots of good laughs. We had no complaints whatsoever about the quality of the meals. There was always a wide selection. There was always the steak, chicken, or salmon offered each night if you did not like the selection.Breakfast in the MDR offered the usual fare, including eggs benedict. The Windjammer for breakfast and lunch had the standard buffet fare. There are no trays available. The seatings on this cruise is 6:30; 7:00; 9:00; 9:30.

Fellow Passengers:

We found that this cruise attracts all age groups from all over the globe. We found that everyone got along marvelously. Many of the European passengers did not get off the ship at the ports, so the pool area was always filled with children.

Entertainment:

There was always some sort of live music or game in one of the lounges throughout the day. The shows had a universal appeal. There was a Motown tribute show offered one night. Of course there was the iceshow, and the usual Royal parties. We were exhausted from the day's touring and preferred to have a quiet drink.

Excursions:

This was our first time to Europe, so we opted for the ship's excursions. I have to say, they are super-efficient in getting the shore excursions off the ship. We were pleased with all of our ship's excursions and would not hesitate to recommend them. .

Disembarkation:

Very well organized. You go to the waiting area assigned until your color is called. Your color is escorted off the ship. Your luggage is on a carousel under the color. We found our luggage in two minutes.

Post-Cruise:

We stayed postcruise at the Hotel Montecarlo in Barcelona. Loved, loved, loved this establishment. The staff could not be nicer. We had a superior room with a spa bathroom. After the poor bathroom facilities in Europe, and the small bathroom in the cabin, I was in heaven. Lovely rooftop lounge where we brought up some wine and cheese and enjoyed the view of Barcelona and the sea.

Crown and Anchor:

We each received the Gold coupon book, a zippered Royal beach tote, and an invitation to a cocktail party

Meet and Greet:

We did not have a formal M&G but we all met up at the Schooner bar and had a wonderful time meeting each other. Several of us met again on the last night. I have new friends from several countries now. :-)

Conclusion:

Voyager is a wonderful way to get a taste of several Med. ports and of course the next time chose your favorite and come back for a longer visit.

How did the ship look after drydock? Were the comedys/shows any good - any advice or tips - I'll be on her Dec. 20 - thanks :)

The ship looks great! Everything looked fresh and clean. The shows we attended were all very enjoyable. The staff is wonderful and you will have a great time. The only tip I can think of is if you wish to see the ice show make sure you check the daily newsletter where it will advise you when and where to get tickets.

Don't worry, you can't miss it. We told the taxi driver Moll d'Adossat (I showed him on a piece of paper). Once you get there, you will see the Voyager of the Seas and the NCL Gem. You can't miss them, each ship has the name written in big letters on it. Also, the people in Barcelona all speak English and are happy to help you.

I am not sure I agree with that. Maybe in hotels and very touristy restaurants you may find someone that speaks English but do not rely on everyone you meet being able to speak English.

Of course, I agree, but at the cruise terminal is where I was referring to.:) We didn't have any problem at all in Barcelona with communication.
