Thanks for all the advise! This got long!! Don't worry I can afford to tip the 15% and I will be when I actually drink.. I don't think I will be spending a lot of money on the bars on the cruise because I would rather spend it somewhere else..and there is always drinking off the ship when we port!!:) I appreciate the advise for sure from everyone (well mostly from everyone:()

When you have upwards of 25,000 posts in under 3 years, it is your obligation to post as if every single thread is directed to your personal expert response. It really doesn't matter if you have any true knowledge or experience to provide on the question being asked.

Maybe they did take out 15% and I just don't remember and I was just also tipping extra. Who knows ha. I am going to tip no matter what I just don't like all the automatic stuff coming out of the account.

Beers are about $5.00 + tip. If you cross out the tip, what would you write in or how much would you tip in cash? 10% would be 50 cents, 15% would be 75 cents, 20% would be $1.00 dollar.

These are make or break numbers for your cruise?

I leave the 15% added on the tab AND tip a Dollar for each drink. Excellent, professional bartenders get $5.00 when I leave the bar. [on top of the 15% and $1.] By the 2nd or 3rd day I have to sip my drinks because they're so strong they could melt my eyeballs.

What goes around, comes around!

Total, I might toke $100. extra on a weeks cruise. Big deal. Count pennies every ordinary day, not while on vacation!

We just went this year and my husband loves beer, it was like 21 dollars and some change for 4 beers in a bucket. And they are not twist off caps so everytime he wanted a new one he had to run a waiter down to get them to use their bottle opener, which was a pain after a while. I had some mixed drinks and it was 6.50 for the first drink and i saved the glass and then every drink after that was 5.50

I am not a beer drinker but I reccommend buying a cigarette lighter that has a bottle opener at the bottom of it. I have bought 2 of them-one at the gift shop in a casino and one at a Walgreens. I think I paid about $2 for them. If you are not a cig smoker that little lighter/bottle opener will last forever and ya don't have to worry about finding a waiter to open the bottle.

I seem to be the only poster with over 25,000 posts and I posted they could just remove the tip. G'ma is the one who said it was mandatory.

You can always remove any tips by going to the purser's desk. Just because I dont know the price of beers (they all vary and you can buy them cheaper by the bucket I know), doesnt mean that my post that tips can be removed was invalid... rude comments by folks like you dont buy you much ... enjoy hiding behind a computer.

btw I drink only mixed drinks ... same principle applies though no matter what you are drinking ... the price doesnt affect that tips CAN be removed. That is factual. Iv heard some go to the purser's desk and make them remove every single tip on their bar tab... happens.

Since you have to sign for it and the tip is added, how are you later going to remove the tip you signed for??

... dont sign for the tip in the first place if you dont plan on paying it . .

How much is a beer?? $3.00?? so thats 45 cents for the guy carrying it to you... cross it out and give him 10 cents?? lol

Wow!

$3.00 for a beer?

Have you been on a cruise in the last 5 years?

Since I can't get then to bring me a funnel, I just get the buckets. They are 16oz beers. On a sunny day on deck I can knock back @3 buckets.

I usually bring a "church key", (bottle opener) with me. Once I forgot one and the beer guy gave me one.

If ya gotta or are thinking about removing the tip, perhaps you shouldn't drink!

Let's not turn this into a 'Mine is bigger than yours" thread..okay:)

Its ok for someone to attack me, but I cant post back?? Now you scold me instead of the person attacking me? I think folks need to not attack each other over a turn of phrase.

My point that yes you can removed tips is on target.

I've been cruising now for several years, and I have never been given a receipt to sign, where you could add in your own tip. Anything you buy or order on the ship is an automatic 15% gratuity. If there is any way around that, I have never scene it.

But to answer your original queistion, most domestics, are like $3.50-$4.00 plus the 15%.

Just off the Miracle and was surprised to find unlike past years when a "bucket of beers" consisted of 5 beers for around $20.00, a bucket is now 4 beers at the same price. Ordered more than my share of Bud Light which came in 16 oz aluminum bottles and Coors Light that came in 16 oz plastic bottles. The breakdown for both was:

Bucket of 4 beers - $18.00

15% Gratuity - $2.70

Grand Total - $20.70

Individually a Bud Light or Coors Light was $4.95 + .74 gratuity....you save $2.06 by buying the bucket.
