stephic411 Posted August 30, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Ya so I sound like a cheap skate I know! I am in my 20's though so cut me some slack!..ha. I was just wondering how much a beer was on Carnivial because it has been about 3 years since I have been and I am curious. Also.. I never remember this 15% being taken out automatically for every bar bill..can you make it so they take out nothing? I would always just write in my own tip when I went before with my sail and sign card. Thanks!
Cruise Cat Posted August 30, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2009 The 15% is automatic and can not be reduced. You can add more if you want.
pnjkeith Posted August 30, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2009 You can have guest services remove 15% tip if you don't want to pay it, or feel you can't afford it. Posters here will bash for suggesting you do that. It's your money.
joepeka Posted August 30, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Here is a link to the CCL bar menu. I'm not sure which ship this is from but it doesn't matter as the prices are the same fleet-wide: http://www.zydecocruiser.com/Carnival-Bar-Menu/CarnivalCruiseBarMenu.htm

Posters here will bash for suggesting you do that. It's your money. How can you remove the %15 tip from each drink you order? I have never heard of that (not that I would want to). I don't know how you would get anyone to wait on you again once you have done it all the servers know. ???
beerman2 Posted August 30, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Are buckets still available? Last sailed in 2004 and remember there was a little price break by getting I believe 4 beers in a bucket.
MrPete Posted August 30, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2009 When you sign your bill, you ALWAYS have the option to change the tip. You cross it out, and write in what you want, and retotal.
stephic411 Posted August 30, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Maybe they did take out 15% and I just don't remember and I was just also tipping extra. Who knows ha. I am going to tip no matter what I just don't like all the automatic stuff coming out of the account.
oakleys Posted August 30, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Yeah id rather give the guy a buck in paper. I think the 15% was on in 2006 thats when i went last.
pnjkeith Posted August 30, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 30, 2009 I told you the bashing would begin. And yes guest services will remove tips on any ticket. Tips r not mandatory, not even on drinks as some believe.

cruisetobeaches Posted August 30, 2009 #12 Share Posted August 30, 2009 A single import beer I think is $5 and a bucket of four is $18, if I remember correctly, plus the 15% tip, which I don't have a problem with. Here, at a local "better" restaurant, that same beer is $5.50 plus tip (NOT required, but I do anyway). At the local sports and concert arena, beer is $6.50 and up for draft, tip optional. I don't have a problem with the ship prices.................OR the tip!

He's a beer drinker and can't do without it on a cruise. I brought a lot of liquor on but not any beer. :( (You can only get the buckets on lido deck I think, you have to buy beer individually elsewhere, the lounges, casino, etc.)
stephic411 Posted August 30, 2009 Author #14 Share Posted August 30, 2009 I think a couple of people got the wrong idea.. im still wanting to tip I just don't like the auto 15%.. it just makes me uncomfortable. After thinking about it though I am probably going to to it automatically but I still don't really like it.
GottaLuvCruising Posted August 30, 2009 #15 Share Posted August 30, 2009 The servers remember people...keep this in mind. They will remember who gives them an extra buck or two. They will SURELY remember any guest who removes the gratuity from their drink order. Then next thing to remember is that your bottle or can of beer is served open...imaginations can run wild here... CMOTO Posted August 30, 2009 #16 Share Posted August 30, 2009 We just went this year and my husband loves beer, it was like 21 dollars and some change for 4 beers in a bucket. And they are not twist off caps so everytime he wanted a new one he had to run a waiter down to get them to use their bottle opener, which was a pain after a while. I had some mixed drinks and it was 6.50 for the first drink and i saved the glass and then every drink after that was 5.
ManyMore Posted August 30, 2009 #17 Share Posted August 30, 2009 I have cruised Carnival 17 times since 1991 and they have had the auto drink tip so if you are in your 20's there is no way you weren't paying it lol

Posters here will bash for suggesting you do that. It's your money. While that may be true, I wonder how many would actually try and get a refund from the bar bill. You know the 15% will be added before you make the purchase. If times are tight and you don't want to spend the 15%, why not save even more and not make the purchase at all? That, I think, would be the better course.
ladyd11933 Posted August 30, 2009 #20 Share Posted August 30, 2009 I was at the pursers desk one time and a woman next to me was having them remove each and every one of the drink tips off of her card....wouldn't be worth my time to do that....but they were taking them off for her. After thinking about it though I am probably going to to it automatically but I still don't really like it. On a bucket of beer its not very much.. if you throw a ca$h tip on top of it.. you get very good service. You would be suprised what a 20 dollar bill will do when given to a bartender. I think a beer is like 5$ so 15% is 75 cents... I know when Im out drinking I tip a dollar or more each drink so its not a biggie. Find a bartender you like and tip well!! Get nice strong drinks.. and as always.. SMUGGLE.. rum runners will take care of you..look em up..no worries about putting in checked luggage. Wow! I bet she told them quite a story! I recall over on the NCL boards, there is a young fellow who actually works on a ship, and in the guest services department. He told about a woman who came to the purser's desk to take off the drink tips. He asked why, and she said she wrote in an extra tip at the bottom of every drink, and tipped very well, and did not understand about the 15% auto-tip until just now. They were able to prove she was lying by showing her electronic copies of all the slips she signed - with no tip! That was priceless. Score one for the good guys!! pnjkeith Posted August 30, 2009 #24 Share Posted August 30, 2009 I dont drink beer, just figured it was cheap. I cant stand the taste. I drink wine or tequila something, usually margaritas on the rocks. I have 7 cruises this year, thats why I dont bother with a signature. 1/09 Ecstasy, 4/09 Voyager, 5/09 Conquest 9/09 B2B Crazies, 12/09 B2B Triumph (then I start again in January with Ecstasy again). .... you missed MY point ... the tip is less than $1 to have someone serve you... ..I dislike the taste of beer to be honest. Uck. bitter. Yes, it went right over my head. Sorry

Many of the staff are from 2nd & 3rd world countries where that 25 cents actually is worth something. Maybe you need to wait another year before cruising so that 25 cents doesn't carry quite so much value to you.
