bar_20 Posted May 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2013 Does anyone know about what it cost to take a taxi from the Sydney Airport to Downtown Sydney. We will be staying at the Sydney Hilton.

t60 Posted May 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 8, 2013 When we arrived in Sydney and joined the taxi queue, I asked about the fare for the 2 of us, the guy shepherding the queue said 65$, I queried this as every had quote 40-45$. In the end another couple who were joining the Solstice (they were behind us in the queue and had heard the conversation) and ourselves (who were going to a hotel in Circ quay)left the queue and got a mini bus for 60$ between us! On our return to the new terminal in Sydney it cost 25$ to go to Circ Quay, then later in the afternoon 40$ to go from our hotel to the airport. Desert Cruizers Posted May 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2013 Sandy this seems like they are all over the place. We will be in Sydney next March and will need transportation for the 4 of us, so will ask for a van at the airport. At least we can split the cost. Katana_Geldar Posted May 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2013 I'm a Sydney sider and I'd expect $30-$40, not including airport fees. If you travel by train to Circular Quay it is cheaper. Try this site. http://www.taxifare.com.au/
SmartTraveller Posted May 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2013 It depends on the time of day. If it is peak hour, expect $50+ to the Hilton. If on the weekend or in the middle of the day, it will be $40 or so including tolls.

cassamanda Posted May 14, 2013 #8 Share Posted May 14, 2013 Taxi fares are metered - there is no bargaining a fare in Australia. The major factor that affects the fare is traffic delays - which are frequent. Morning peak is from 6am to 9.30am and afternoon peak can start at 2.30pm. We have just returned from Honolulu and Sydney's traffic is very similar. Other factors such as toll charges and airport charges can also add to the fare. Gay - You should be through security/customs/quarantine etc by 8.30, the taxi could take several different ways from the AP to Pitt St Meriton. No toll route would take longer but driver has options if the motorway has a problem. The toll route would include the Eastern Distributor (ED) and Cross City Tunnel coming out at Bathurst St. The apartments are on the corner of Bathurst and Pitt. Desert Cruizers Posted May 15, 2013 #9 Share Posted May 15, 2013 Thank you Hugh. Now coming off the NZ cruise, we don't have to worry about being first off, since we are staying those 9 additional days. Gay
Wastegirl Posted May 16, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 16, 2013 You should also consider a chauffeur driven car, we got one from Sydney Airport to Circular Quay, they were waiting for us, sent an SMS when we landed telling us exactly where the car was waiting. Only cost us $49 for a well dressed and English speaking driver with an immaculate car. When we debarked out ship on our return journey we just hopped into a taxi and it cost us $55 - it is a no brainer I will be booking our chauffeur car for our next trip. Wastegirl Posted May 16, 2013 #11 Share Posted May 16, 2013 Oops forgot, the $49 was a fixed fare not on the meter, so you get taken directly to your drop off point - they don't take the 'scenic route' :)
