Joyride37 Posted January 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2012 Has anyone taken this private (not through the ship) tour? They offer a scenic tour with a Dunns Falls walk and then beach time. They have good ratings, but we all know that that has to be taken with a grain of salt. So, if you have, have you any negative reservations about the tour, and if so what and why? We will be there first week of March. Joyride
GradUT Posted January 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2012 We took the Dunn River Falls/White River Rafting trip with Peat Taylor last year. He and his son, who escorted us to the rafting part of the trip, were friendly, informative and totally professional. Peat Taylor tours deserve the excellent reviews they receive. I would not hesitate to recommend him as your tour provider.
thegreens Posted January 19, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2012 We did a private tour with them in April, 2010. It was awesome. They let us run our tour. We stopped for some red stripe and snacks before going to the blue hole. 100% recommend them.

cccer Posted January 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2012 We also did the white water rafting and Dunn's river falls with Peat and his son three years ago. Awesome is all I can say. We were there four years earlier and took a Carnival tour and felt very uncomfortable the whole time. With Peat it was great. My wife and I went with our son and his friend. We got to Dunn's early and there were almost no people. By the time we finished, all the cruise tours were there and it was chaotic to say the least. Next we did the river tubing and that was nice and relaxing. He then took us to the Ruins for lunch. Can remember the cost, around $60 for the four of us I think. Really good buffet food with Red Stripe to drink. Very nice atmosphere for dining. Overall, great experience. We are going back in July this year and will be contacting him shortly for another wonderful time.
will773 Posted January 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2012 This is great to hear! I've heard a few people mention him before, and it's so great to hear that he really is great! Next time I go to Jamaica, I'll definitely give Peat Taylor a call! :)
cccer Posted January 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2012 Will, we have been on 10 cruises and the tour with Peat ranks in the top 5 tours we have taken. After the first time there, we did not even want to get off the ship. Peat was the first private tour we ever took and we have not taken a ship tour since. cruisingbooboo Posted January 21, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2012 How far is Blue Hole from Falmouth or Ochos Ris? What else I'd you do?mis Peat related to Courtey? I've been emailing Courtney. cruising grandma Posted January 21, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2012 We took a tour with Peat Taylor's son 7 or 8 years ago. He took us to the fern grotto, falls, and back to the ship for lunch. He met us back at the ship at a set time and took us river tubing. My mom, who was in her 80's, didn't like water sports, went tubing with the guides taking great care of her! They all called her their grandmother! We told his son we wanted to meet Peat, and he took us to a shopping area where Peat came to meet us. He had taken another van full on a tour. We had a fantastic day!! I would highly recommend their tour. The only problem we had was my DH brought our passports with him in a ziplock bag in his swim shorts. While river tubing, water got inside the bag and soaked our passports. That is the last time we took our passports on a swim!
deborahjo Posted January 22, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2012 Thanks everyone for the great reviews. I just sent Peat an email booking a tour with him. Boy he is really cheap compared to the cruise ship. I mean we can do DRF and Mahagony Beach for $40 pp. Cannot beat that price.
HookedonSXM Posted January 23, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 23, 2012 We were on Celebrity Millennium on Dec 19. We were scheduled to dock in Falmouth that day. I had booked Peat Taylor tours to take us to Dunn River Falls. It was too windy for the captain to dock in Falmouth so we detoured to Montego Bay. I wasn't sure what would happen to our tour, but when we came out of the "terminal" building in Montego Bay Peat Taylor's guide Clifton was there waiting for us. Clifton took great care of us. By docking in Montego Bay we added at least 1 and 1/2 hours of driving time to our tour. They took us to Dunn River Falls (which was great!) and we stopped at Scotchies for some jerk chicken and pork. On the way back he was constantly checking where the ships tours were so that he could assure us we were well ahead of them and did not have to worry about missing the ship. As it was we got back 1/2 hour before all aboard, and due to so many ships tours being late the ship left 1 hour late. To top it all off, Peat still only charged us the original agreed upon price from Flamouth. We were very impressed and highly recommend Peat Taylor Tours. Dread Pirate Roberts Posted February 2, 2012 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2012 How private was your private tour- was it truly just your party or was it a van with other people on your cruise as well? What kind of vehicle were you in, and Does Peat have other drivers? It always seems like he is the only one. Maybe he has 50 and they all say they are Peat. Ha. I'm looking to book a private tour from MoBay to Dunn's and he is one of several that I have emailed. My Bride went to the falls with her late mother as a child, so this tour has special significance for her. No way I want to be: A) on a big Carnival booked charter bus B) rushed with a throng of other people to hurry through the falls before going to some other thing like shopping C) Whatever time allows for after the falls needs to be at our discretion D) but I also want the assurance of making it back to MoBay on time ( this will be the first time we have not booked through the ship, and based on his reviews I am pretty confident, but... still. Is Peat Taylor my guy? thanks. We took the Dunn River Falls/White River Rafting trip with Peat Taylor last year. Does that $40 include $20 entrance fee to DRF? if not, it is withinn few bucks of RCCL price of $69. Given that both Taylor names are getting so much "reviwes" on various boards, wonder why they dont run larger busses given that transport is the main cost from Falmouth. chukli Posted February 3, 2012 #14 Share Posted February 3, 2012 We have had private tours with him three time, and cannot say enough good things about him. One of the tours involved tubing which my 83 year old father didn't want to do, and Peat just drove him around the city and made my father feel so comfortable and engaged. My father said this was the highlight of the trip, chatting with someone who understands seniors! Anyway, i would recommend him without hesitation. Daddyfto Posted February 15, 2012 #16 Share Posted February 15, 2012 We did Phill Lafayette a couple years ago and he was great! Going with Peat Taylor this March as he also looks good ...quick question ...what do you tip your guide per person? We have 6 in our group and I'm thinking $10 a head ...does that sound fair? smallchange Posted February 20, 2012 #17 Share Posted February 20, 2012 Have booked DRF and river tubing with Peat (8 in our group). What do we do with out belongings as we are climbing falls and tubing. I understand there are lockers to rent (What's the fee?) at DRF. What about the tubing trip? cibaygirls Posted February 20, 2012 #18 Share Posted February 20, 2012 I will also chime in with positive reviews for Peat Taylor. We just got back 2 weeks ago and had a great time doing DRF and tubing. I lost my camera during tubing and Peat is even helping me try to get it back, staying in touch with me and the tubing company. As far as belongings go: for the falls you bring them and they can go in a locker; the lockers are pretty big so about 6-7 of us shared one; you give them something like $8 and get a lock and then when you return the lock you get $5 back. When you go tubing you can leave everything on the van, he drops you off and picks you up right where you end. It was one of the best excursions we have done; very relaxing. ju ju Posted February 20, 2012 #19 Share Posted February 20, 2012 we did a trip with Peat Taylor last week whilst on the Azura. 5 adults and an 8 year old, did Dunn's river falls and river tubing. went smoothly pick up and returned without a hitch, would recommend them. just be aware of the pressure to buy dvd of the falls by guides and tipping on exit followed by hastle from stall holders to take a "free gift" from them. nothing to do with Peat Taylor but eyes down and a "no thank you" keep hands in pocket to help involuntarily receiving a "gift" ! jimdanahar Posted February 22, 2012 #20 Share Posted February 22, 2012 When you do Dunn's River Falls through Peat Taylor Tours do they drive you to the top of the falls and then you walk down the steps and then climb back up to the waiting car? We will have our parents with us and they are not sure they can walk up and down the steps much less the actual falls. Thanks!
jimdanahar Posted February 24, 2012 #21 Share Posted February 24, 2012 We have booked with Peat Taylor to go to Dunn's River Falls and Mahogany Beach. What's Mahogany beach like? Is it crowded? Will we be able to find a chair in the shade? Do they rent chairs and umbrellas? What kind of activities is available for the kids? Snorkling? Jet Ski? Any advice would be appreciated. RedsRatBstrd Posted February 27, 2012 #22 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Mahogany beach was a stop with Peat Taylor(fantastic by the way). I found it very small, not that picturesque with a creepy vibe. There was nothing to do there and we felt it was a bit of a waste of our limited time while at port. Go to blue hole instead. alphouston Posted March 7, 2012 #23 Share Posted March 7, 2012 We used Peat Taylor when we docked in Falmouth on our Mariner cruise. We had scheduled a private tour to include Dunn River Falls and river tubing. Peat's diver Veston was waiting for us when we got off the ship. He was very friendly and informative. It was just the 4 of us...myself, DH, DD (15) and DS (8). After our water excursions, Veston stopped at a local restaurant and we got some great jerk chicken and pork. It was a fabulous day and I would definatley book with Peat again.
jamaicafuninthesun Posted March 8, 2012 #24 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Went to Jamaica on Carnival Valor some weeks ago and we had tons of Fun. This Jamaican, "Donald", was just awesome. We got his email from a friend and he took us (my girlfriend and six of my friends) on a shopping tour of Ocho Rios. He got us some fantastic deals and even helped us to get better prices. Especially when we went to that craft-market, where they had some beautiful carvings. I bought a mask for my son. We then went to Dunns River Falls and climbed the cascading waterfall which was a fantastic experience by the way. We drove to this place called Ocean Ridge where we had a breathtaking view of Ocho Rios...the rest of the day we spent at this beach called Bambo-blue or something like that. It was right next to a RIU-hotel and we could see the Ship from there. He had all the Redstripe Beer we could drink included!!!!!! and a Gallon of Rumpunch(Awesome but be careful, that stuff had 63% of his special Jamaica Rum)!!!!:p Music (Reggae) in the bus was the bomb. He showed us some Jamaican dance moves and we just laughed our butts of. Donald is the best!! we would book him again any time....!IrieMON:):):)
Lady Anna & Sir Troy Posted March 9, 2012 #25 Share Posted March 9, 2012 You can check out the review I just posted here. We had a private group of 5, and it was just our group. It was an awesome trip, the best we have done in Jamaica! The Irie Blue Hole is about 20 minutes away from the cruise port. L.A.S.T.
