Flipper133 Posted September 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2012 Yup A$50 is about right... check out: http://www.taxifare.com.au/ You can enter in From and destination and date and time and it will provide a pretty good estimation of expected fare. cheers

Northern Aurora Posted September 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2012 Just wanted to chime in an add that we found that a great number (if not most) taxis in Australia take credit cards. If the OP is wondering if they will need to exchange money or find an ATM machine at the airport they most likely will be able to pay the taxi charge with plastic. t60 Posted September 20, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2012 I´ve checked the taxi site, can anyone tell me why it is more expensive to go from the airport to the hotel, than the other way round? Sandy in Spain
cassamanda Posted September 20, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2012 I´ve checked the taxi site, can anyone tell me why it is more expensive to go from the airport to the hotel, than the other way round? Sandy in Spain Easy, Toll charges are only one way - Airport to City. Taxi can recover toll charges.
t60 Posted September 21, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2012 Easy, Toll charges are only one way - Airport to City. Taxi can recover toll charges. If taxi can recover toll charges, I still don´t understand the pricing...perhaps I´m just dim! Sandy in Spain
cjm66 Posted September 21, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 21, 2012 If taxi can recover toll charges, I still don´t understand the pricing...perhaps I´m just dim! Sandy in Spain It is not a road toll. It is a fee levied by the owners/operators of the Sydney Airport and is payable on fares FROM the airport taxi ranks. Currently the difference on the calculator is showing as $3.00 - watch for it to change to $3.50 on the web in time and definitely on the fare you will be charged. Could be worse - Usually they get you coming and going! http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-news/sydney-airport-taxi-levy-to-become-highest-in-nation-20110606-1fped.html Cheers Colleen
sparky-elpaso Posted September 21, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 21, 2012 The taxi to our hotel in Sydney was our "Dorothy, you're not in Kansas anymore" moment - as the driver got in the right (aka, wrong) side of the car. :) Had to be careful crossing the street while on foot too - look right first instead of left. Rare Waynetor Posted September 22, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 22, 2012 Also, remember tipping taxi drivers is not expected - round up to the closet dollar when paying cash and they will be happy.

Globaliser Posted October 7, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 7, 2012 It's a shared shuttle service. I used a shared shuttle from Sydney airport to town once. And once only. After I'd toured a selection of Sydney hotels for an hour, I just got off at a random dropping off point and did the rest of the trip in a cab. I should just have got a cab to start off with. Flipper133 Posted October 7, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 7, 2012 Another option... which I am personally using in a couple of weeks... is to pre book a car/limo. I am using a company called Towncars. A uniformed driver will be awaiting you, and he will drive you to you destination in a whole lot more style than having to wait in the cab queue. You can also have a conversation with him in english:D Surprisingly the cost compares well with a cab. $55 v $50. cheers

rmconley Posted October 8, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 8, 2012 You can go downstairs below the airport terminal and take a train to Town Hall station for about $12 each and walk to the Hilton.
t60 Posted October 8, 2012 #22 Share Posted October 8, 2012 any comments as to why you wont use them again? we are looking at different options and want to know whether consider this company or not.thanks They arrived over an hour late, could not be contacted by phone from the airport, the driver was rude, surly and didn´t help with the luggage. Not a good impression for our first trip down under. I can´t get the Town Cars quote to work either!
