Keep the hurricanes away from us. Sorry cruisers, but we had lots of damage last summer from 3 hurricanes, so even though I can empathize with you, at least you can go to other ports. We don't need any more hurricanes here near Orlando. Need I say more?

For those of us who experienced loss last summer, the thought of another season coming up is tough to take. Especially for those of us who are still rebuilding.

A vacation, no matter how well planned, can always take place sometime or somewhere else. If you do not wish to encounter storms in the Carribean, don't book your cruise in the summer months.

Our shutters are now up. We have water and three days worth of food in.

Stay safe Katie and all fellow Floridians.

Here's another Floridian chiming in. GO AWAY all hurricanes. I don't wish this on anyone else, but we've had enough.

I'm starting to get freaked out...AGAIN!!! There is still evidence of the storms from last year...how much more can we take? Let's just hope and pray that Dennis stays as far West of us as possible! Even if it does stay further out in the Gulf...we'll still be on the East side of the storm...which is usually the worst!

Let's keep our fingers crossed and PLEASE...keep all this in prospective...just as Katie and Esther posted.

As I checked the map of travel, it looks like Alabama/LA will get it again after Cindy then straight up to Cleveland - YEAH! RAIN!

 

But it is still very early & he's up to being a 2 with Jamaica. Major damage planned for them. Guess any W Carib that left last Saturday is now getting back to safer waters. How would you like to be those Captains??

My husband and I have made a few cross-country driving trips and were in every state except ND, Kansas, Wisconsin and Indiana. We kept saying, "Where do we want to go if we had to leave Florida?" Guess what....there isn't any other state we want to go to. Each has something good and bad, and to us this is our paradise. And thank God everyone doesn't like the same state/city, or we'd never be able to get around because of the crowds! Nuff said.

Might I suggest that those of us affected by Tropical weather realize the dangers and accept them?

The point being made by Katie, Esther, and I is that we do not need SHRILL REMINDERS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS that there is BAD WEATHER COMING OUR WAY. :eek:

The cruisers affected will already be aware of the possibility of course changes and will have to decide what to do.

Considering today's developments in London, I would hope that regardless of our own personal travel plans, we all take a few moments to think of others and reflect on the important things in life.

Oh, and as for those who suggest that if they were living in Florida, they would move, where to? Perhaps California where we can consider flash fires, mudslides and earthquakes as part of our daily lives.

I spent 25 years living south of Buffalo NY. Jim Cantore was a regular there too. Oh the blizzards, what fun.

The point those of us in Florida have tried to make is that whereas we all wish to have wonderful cruises, remember that YOUR inconvenience, if you miss a port, is only going to affect YOU for a couple of days. Our lives, and those of the good people in the various Caribbean island ports, have been forever changed. Not for a day, or a week, but we are going on 11 months here.

Right now consider those who LIVE in New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf.

We are all aware that there is a price attached to living in paradise.

Our daughter lives in Florida, Orlando area to be exact: Windamere is the town: she wouldn't live anywhere else, her hubby has a successful business, she has a great part time job, they are beach lovers and don't mind the humidity: they think we are nuts to live in this desert land of ours, we think they are crazy to put up with humidity and yes, every state has weather related problems or fire problems or poverty or whatever. You enjoy your lives in Florida and don't let those nasty storms bother you. Just cause the news says this is what could happen doesn't mean it will: you know that. How many times when we lived in Texas did we hear about the tropical storms that were going to wash Galveston away and how many times did it not happen. NMnita

Well said, Evana. And as far as the tragedy in London, I have just spoken to a dear friend who lives there. Thank God they are fine. We can evacuate here because of prior warnings, but those poor people on a bus and in subways had no inkling as to what was going to happen.

and alot of folks will be lucking out. FLA western may see rain, but landfall is looking from Biloxi, MS to panhandle of FLA. Jamaica will be missed from land fall as he is going straight to CUBA and should be a 4! Even Grand Cayman will miss out as he is to turn North instead of West. My friend in Bilozi who is Manager of Beau Rivage casino/hotel is taking reservations at a discount from casino rate for fleeing folks, since they are a huge sunken barge with a casino/hotel built on it, they are an evacuation area since no windows anywhere but the rooms. New Orleans is set with their domed stadium as another evacuation site for those driving West.

To everyone in Florida good luck to you. My neighbors moved today and at this minute are on there way to Punta Gorda to live. Very sad to see them go from New Jersey but some day we might be making our way down.

We are about an hour plus from Orlando, on the beach. My feeling about humidity is that my skin thrives! We lived all our lives in NYS and remember those damn blizzards and ice storms and no power, etc., all toooooo well. The secret to living in Fl, on the coast or anywhere, is keep the insurance paid no matter the cost, don't become attached to material things(they can be replaced) and LEAVE early. UK emergency people haven't gotten into the cars or lower levels to obtain moe bodies so the dealy count will rise. 3 buses were blown according to my friend in Birmingham who works outside of Coventry where one of the buses blew with suicide bombers. But they need to know if they did the "Tube" also or if that was planted.

Please do not post conjecture. The bombs blew up in London. There was only ONE bus involved. None of the bombings occured outside of London. Coventry is one heck of a long way from London. The investigation is ongoing and "suicide bombers" is only one of the suggestions.

I'm sure this storm will effect us somewhat, but not like last year's. Unfortunately though, the storm season is young.

Where does your daughter live in Poland? My mother's family was from the Warsaw area and my dad's family is from Lithuania. A few years ago, my dad, sister and I went to Lithuania and it was a wonderful vacation. My dad is now 92 so it's doubtful that we all will get back there but I know he would like to go again. There is so much history in Europe. I love visiting there.

Hi, Dennis is actually a 4 right now and Cuba is being hit quite hard.

 

For those who said to move....some of us have lived here all our lives.

This is my home. I have been here since 1965. We moved here in Oct of 65

so it will be 40 years in October.

Move? Well, Calif has earthquakes and mudslides, the NE has snowstorms,

the midwest has tornados and cyclones.

 

Weather and Mother Nature (that would be one in the same) affect every part

of the United States.

At this point it looks like Dennis' path is going towards the Panhandle around Sunday afternoon. Wishing everyone a safe weekend.

From another part of the world affected by hurricanes or cyclones, I would not live anywhere else!
