Desdichado62 Posted March 23, 2013 #1251 Share Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) So am I tracking with options? Of all the posts, there were only a few that told how to get to the Vasa from Stadsarden (sorry spelling) pier area using the Stockholm Card transportation (busses or trams)...did I miss something in this regard? Yeah you only have bus as the option if you want to use the Stockholm Card. Bus #53, #71 or #96 to Slussen terminal from Londonviadukten. At Slussen terminal change to bus #76 towards Ropsten ust get off at Djurgårdsbron. There is no need wasting time waiting for the tram at Djugårdsbron. Just get off at Djurgårdsbron and walk the remaining couple of hundred meters to Wasa. Edited March 23, 2013 by Desdichado62
CRUIS4ME Posted March 24, 2013 #1252 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Thanks for the confirmation about transportation options as I understood the postings. If we take a taxi to the Vasa from Stadtgarden terminal area, won't we be able to walk to City Hall, the Palace and Gamla Stan? Don't mind casual walking to get from place to place but don't want to trade long walking times if it means we will have to skip some of the key sites. Thanks again. DanL Posted March 25, 2013 #1254 Share Posted March 25, 2013 From the Royal boats site http://royalsightseeing.com/ When cruise ships is dooked before 10 am at Masthamnen 167, we normaly start our service when ship arrive. We also arrange special departures direrctly to Vasa in the morning. (Apparently Masthamnen and Stadsgården is the same thing) Thanks Desdichado62 for info in post 1221. I didn't know about Royal. It is operated by Waxholmsbolaget and is integrated into Stockholms public transport system. The ferry line runs from Slussen to "Allmänna gränd" near Gröna Lund on Djurgården, with an optional stop at Skeppsholmen.

The HOHO boats get you to most sites, no transferring between modes of transportation and appears minimal walking. Seems like the best way for a cruise tourist & we don't plan to get a Stockholm card but maybe I am missing something. Maybe Desdichado62 can comment on whether Royal sightseeing Nybroviken or Royal Palace stop is closest to city hall.

Desdichado62 Posted March 26, 2013 #1263 Share Posted March 26, 2013 (edited) Useful info. Thanks. We will be there May 14. Our ship docks in Frihamnen at 8:00 and Vasa doesn't open until 10:00 so sjovagen looks like a good way to get there. I looked at these links and really didn't see a timetable for departures from Frihamnen (of course I can't read Swedish which might be part of the problem). How does one get from the cruise ship to the sjovagen dock? How do we pay for the boat - on board or is there a ticket office at the dock? I have news for you. The new time table for Sjövägen have arrived. http://www.sjovagen.nu/getfile.ashx?cid=208267&cc=3&refid=19 Your ship docks at 08.00 and this means that you should be able to catch Sjövägen that departs at 08.49 from the outermost point of the Frihamnen pier. It should arrive at Allmänna gränd at Djurgården at 09.27 which gives you 30 min to walk the short distance to Vasa. https://maps.google.se/maps?saddr=Allm%C3%A4nna+gr%C3%A4nd&daddr=Ok%C3%A4nd+v%C3%A4g&hl=sv&ie=UTF8&ll=59.327628,18.095148&spn=0.002477,0.007398&sll=59.327467,18.095185&sspn=0.001238,0.003699&geocode=FTc3iQMdTRwUAQ%3BFZlDiQMdZxcUAQ&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=19&z=18 I was at Vasa but i don't remember if there was a walk path adjacent to the museum. CaroleLee Posted March 29, 2013 #1267 Share Posted March 29, 2013 Hi, Need some direction information. Plan on purchasing the Stockholm Card. Our ship should dock @ Frihamnen. We want to visit the following sites & would appreciate any assistance you can offer on how to do this in the most efficient manner. Vasa Museum Royal Place City Hall Millesgarden Ostermalm Food Hall ? Canal boat ride ? Drottningholm We have approximately 8 hrs in port. Does this itinerary seem reasonable? We would prefer bus & ferry (so as to see as much as possible) vs metro .We will be traveling in June Thank you for all your help & Happy Easter Carole

Especially not Drottningholm. I also don't think that you would be able to do both City Hall and Millesgården The most appropriate order would be: Either: 1. Wasa 2. Royal Palace 3. City Hall 4. I would never recommend going there to someone with only one day in Stockholm; it is not at all close to other things of interest. I also agree that both City Hall and Millesgården will probably be too much. If you decide on City Hall I hope you are aware that the only way to go inside is on a guided tour. You will have to find out at what times there will be guided tours on the day when you are in Stockholm. Check close before leaving for your cruise, times can change and on some days they may have no tours at all depending on other events within the building. The tours will also take a limited number of people. Millesgården is also a little bit off, but not far from Frihamnen. The best way to go there from Frihamnen is probably a taxi. Ship to Wasa Bus #76, south bound direction towards Hammarbyhamnen, get off at Djurgårdsbron. 2. Wasa-Royal Palace either south bound direction towards Hammarbyhamnen, get off at Slottet. or go with Djurgårdsfärjan from Allmänna gränd at Djugården to Slussen quay and then walk through Gamla Stan to the Royal Palace. Bus is faster but Djurgårdsfärjan will let you see Stockholm from the water. 3. Royal Palace-City Hall, walk 4. City Hall-Östermalmshallen (Östermalmstorg) buss 62 east bound towards Storängsbotten 5. Östermalmshallen- Back to the ship, either walk to Vallhallavägen/Jungrugatan (800m) and from there go with blue bus #1 North/east bound direction towards Frihamnen or walk to Nybroplan (500m) and from there go with red bus #76, north bound, towards Frihamnen. Do you suggest walking between city hall and the Royal palace because it's cheaper, faster or you think it is the easiest? We will probably have a Stockholm card and we were going going to take the 76 to the Vasa, then the 76/62 to City Hall and then hop the 62 going east and get off where it turns north and we would walk across the bridge south to the Royal Castle and Gamla Stan. Finally taking the 76 back to Vartahamnen. Will we spend more time waiting for the bus at city hall then actually just walking from city hall to the Royal Palace? Bus 62 from Kungsträdgården/Karl XII torg could also work but still require a few minutes of walking+waiting and then a few minutes en route so the time gain would be minimal.
