My DH deleted our Alaska Photos! Will you share yours?

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful cruise on the NCL Sun to Alaska! What a great way to celebrate our 1st anniversary. But... with one click of the button he has erased all our photos!!!!!!!

Is there anyone out there who will share your photos? In particular, I would love to have some of Mendenhall Glacier, the view from atop the tram in Juneau, Tracy Arm, and the train ride in Skagway. I don't need a ton, but maybe 3 or 4 of your favorite shots?

I would really appreciate any help you can offer. My email address is kristinkhesse at yahoo dot com

Thanks!

Can't help you on this experience but if you use a real camera with real film deleting the photos is not a propblem unless of course he opens the case before rewinding the film. And if you lose the photos after the fact, there are still negatives available for reprints. Oh the good old days still have many benefits if we can just slow down long enough to understand them.

Mine from 2 years ago are posted on webshots -- the link is in my signature. You're welcome to borrow any that might work.

About the deleted photos -- have you used the memory stick for anything else? If not, you may be able to recover them. We had something similar happen with a land vacation years ago, with a brand new digital camera. I was able to download some software and recover them. Unfortunately, we had a new computer since then, and I don't remember the name of the program I used.

If you're not technically comfortable with that, you might be able to try a photo shop in your area that specializes in digital photos and see if they can do anything to help you out.

Update -- my memory finally clicked in. The one I used was called R-studio. Here's the link to the site: http://www.data-recovery-software.net/

How awful for you. Perhaps if you can be a bit more specific on how your photos were deleted some technical whizzes might be able to help e.g. was it be formatting the memory card, on the PC?

Hope you manage to find some (perhaps borrowed) memories of your trip.

I am guesing he accidentally deleted/reformatted the photos/camera. Do NOT do anything with the chip!!!!! Call your local digital camera store i.e. Wolf Camera) and ask about data recovery from this chip. We did the same thing a couple of years and recovered 215 of 219 pictures.

Glad to hear you got so many back.

Now do yourself a favour (if you haven't already) burn a copy to cd.

We bought our first digital camera last year and I was so afraid of losing pictures, we got a portable hard drive to download copies on the trip.

I now have copies 1/ still on hard drive 2/ burned to cd 3/ I have two hard drives in comp. with a copy on each :)

Glad to hear it worked for you. I was able to recover most of a neighbor's after their cruise ship burned a CD and fouled something up, along with the ones from our trip to Illinois/Missouri several years ago.

It's all too easy to delete them accidentally. I've become extremely anal about moving them to another storage media. I now disconnect the camera and make sure I can still retrieve them from their "permanent" spot before deleting them from the card. It is one of the most sickening feelings in the world to realize they're gone due to your own stupidity :o .

I am so pleased that you were able to recover your pics for three reasons:

  1. You have recovered your cherished pics. Losing something like an Alaska holiday album is a major blow.
  2. You have learnt an important lesson about digital pics and backing up, i.e. make sure they're safe before deleting. I will always make sure by opening them on another computer before consigning the original to oblivion. Your experience will also be a lesson to us all.
  3. You have let us all know that the data recovery software really does work, saving us from sending the card off to specialist firms. Which program did you download? It would be useful to know.

Once again, an example of the value of these boards, someone will know the answer.

BTW my Alaska pics in my signature, but you don't need them now:D :D :D

I was about to suggest using GOOGLE for your rescue, but it looks like you already did.

The answer to just about EVERYTHING can be found via Google. I do not know how we survived before the Internet.

Happy for you.

We just did the same thing with our newly taken Hawaii photos. Both of us were crushed beyond belief as this happened right in the middle of our vacation cruise when my husband accidentally hit the button to reformat our digital camera  when he had his glasses off at a beautiful spot where we could swim under a waterfall. We immediately called our 25 year old son who after researching discovered that there was a computer program that we could get to recover the photos if we did not try to take any more pictures on the chip. He gave his dad the program for father's day yesterday and so we will soon be able to work on recovering our lost photos. :)

Now that you have them back be sure to burn them on a disc so the same thing doesn't happen if your computer crashes or hiccups. That would suck too and then they are gone for good. Never, ever trust a computer. Been there and done that. :)

Another good way to save digital photos is on a free photo website , like snapfish.com. I find this an easy way to organize my photo albums and they have reasonable costs for printing your pictures for hard copy albums as well. You can also send links to family and friends to view your photos as well!
