Stevero2 Posted July 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2013 I am planning to sail on the Volendam out of Vancouver to the inside passage and have 2 questions. 1. When I sailed on the Maasdam in the Caribbean a few years ago, the seas were really rocky. Since the Volendam is about the same size as the Maasdam, am I likely to encounter similar problems? 2. tThis may sound like a silly question about an Alaskan cruise, but I need to sleep in a very cold room. Would the a/c in the cabin be adjustable to a cold temperature? The Eurodam worked well for me last year in the Caribbean, but the Vollendam is an older ship. I know it was refurbished in 2011, but I don't know if that included the cabin a/cs.
CruiserBruce Posted July 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2013 The seas can be rough. The ship has stabilizers, but if the seas are rough, you will feel it. Cruise ship A/C is known to be VERY cool. Don't think you will have an issue.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2013 CruiserBruce is correct, as usual. When you sail out of Vancouver you may have very smooth seas, or it could be a little rough or even very rough. You just never know. Keith
EGG Posted July 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2013 I would check on the Holland America boards where all the HAL regulars hang out. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=171 You should get current information there, so I won't say anything about my cruise from 5 years ago. kitty9 Posted July 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2013 For me, Holland America had the worst cabin air conditioning. I was in a deluxe suite and the cabin was constantly hot. My sister was in a cabin on the same floor, about 20 doors down, and her cabin was unbearably hot.

I will say that I have never been in a suite though, just a regular cabin.
