Getaway Photo Review - Food Focus - Specialty Dining - Chef's Table - Viva Vino

For dessert I opted for the Chocolate Cake which I was advised was like a more-refined version of the MDR’s ubiquitous Chocolate Volcano. This example was for me very good and for real chocolate-lovers possibly even better; with its oozing molten-centre. No new ground broken here though; and a bit safe for a venue that has aspirations beyond its achievements on my two visits. I would however stress this is just my opinion based on my experiences and, even after a second chance, I was left with the feeling that it could-and-should do better; and I urge those who enjoy fine dining to try it for themselves, because it may be better for you than me...

Thank you very much for you're in-depth review, well of everything. The timing was perfect as we sail out at the beginning of May. Loved reading every post. Also considering booking The Getaway again next year as it will have a different itenerary. They really should pay you 😜

Following! Your review so far has been absolutely amazing :) We'll be booking the Getaway for spring 2016, after debating between it and Anthem of the Seas.

Many thanks. I am booked on the Anthem to the Canaries for this September coming, but the price for a Studio is more than double the per day rate was on Getaway. Not sure if it's worth it; but I wanted to do that 13 night sailing from the UK. I suspect Epic will be getting more of my European bookings in future...

Thank you for this amazing review. This has been extremely helpful for me. I just booked the Getaway for April 2016. We have only ever been on DCL, but my children will be older by then and I thought it was time to try out a new cruise line. Your review is definitely making me feel better about my choice. I think they will be happy with all of the available options for things to do and places to eat. Plus, it looks beautiful too.

Your feedback is truly appreciated.

Kind regards

I've just found your review and I've loved it [emoji2][emoji106] thank you for spending the time to do this. We board 2 weeks tomorrow and can't wait! Great photographs.

I would love a vibe pass but not sure if needed. Do you know if H2O was crowded during the day? It is just 2 of us and I love to read in the sun while sunbathing.

Hello and thanks for commenting.

To be honest I wasn't in Spice H2O very often but it was pretty busy when I was. Whether you "need" Vibe or not depends if you value the extra space, comfort and peace-and-quiet that it offers. It totally transformed my daytime experience on board. If Vibe had been full, you would have found me on the Waterfront instead; but then I don't lie in the sun...

I am sure you will enjoy your cruise whatever you decide.

Kind regards

Following!

and thank you so much! my partner and I decided about three weeks ago to cruise April 11 on the Getaway - spur of the moment and first NCL cruise. Your posts have made it all even more exciting - great food porn and I'm not even a foodie!

We are "keeping it simple" cruise style. This is only our third trip ever - both of the others were on RC Liberty and Freedom. Can you suggest any out of the way places for those of us on the regular package - Spice H20 looks like it might have some quieter spots. We love just hanging out on a deck chair looking at the water - shade is fine with us. Any suggestions welcome if you have a minute, but regardless this is a wonderful, thorough and damn well written review. Many thanks!

Kristen

Hello and thanks for your very kind remarks. Please see my last post; I loved the Waterfront, but if you want to be up-top, head forward on Deck 17 (parallel to Vibe) and you may find it slightly less busy.

I also enjoyed your review, my husband and I are sailing for the 2nd time this year on NCL, we usually sail on RCCL but love the aft penthouse suite on this ship. All I'm saying is after 76,000 views I think NCL should be happily treating you to a free cruise. I'm not sure what you do for a living but have you ever thought of doing this? Thanks again for such great reading. I am going to send them an email about your review and tell them you deserve something for it.

Amy

Hello Amy,

Thanks for your kind comments and for making me smile. :)

Not sure that NCL would consider my review altogther good advertising for them, as I point out the negatives too... If however they do want me to review their Haven product ;) , about which I have heard nothing but good things, then I would be only too delighted to receive a visit from the upgrade fairy for my Escape cruise in January 2016... :D

Kind regards

Thanks for a lovely review....taking me right back onboard! DH and I were on this same cruise and were lucky enough to celebrate our anniversary in the Haven! :D

Everything you heard about it is true!! A wonderful experience from start to finish!

NCL has done a great job with this beautiful ship!

Before moving on to Day 3, at this point I want to start my Deck Tours with Deck 8, my favourite. I will start by taking you around the Waterfront to explore the outdoor areas...

Carlo’s Bake Shop...

Can anyone go into Carlo's? You don't have to be in a Haven Suite do you? How did you find the sweets in there?

btw - thanks for the review - we booked the Getaway last week for Feb of 2016.
