Sept 2009:eek:.......I have been wanting to return and finally booked

a cruise there for May 2015:D......and the really sweet part is Celebrity

has been offering really good obc's....so I have quite a bit of credit

to use for excursions:D....happy, happy!

Hi Linda:).....thanks so much.

To be totally honest, my most recent cruise was last month and it

was a disaster:mad:........the only way to get that bad taste out of

my mouth is for another cruise but one that is awesome......so I am

hoping it is Alaska:)

LoisR:

What were you on last month that was such a disaster? What happened?

Hi....well, to make a long story short and I don't want to get flamed

by folks saying "I should have known better"....I went on a 5 night

cruise in early March and over 1/2 the ship were Spring Breakers.....

And I am sure there other SB'rs around the country who do have

manners and stuff but this was so horrible:(....they put a few kids off

the ship but it didn't really help because of how many were still on board.

Let's just say, I was also 20 once but if I acted as disrepectful as these

kids? My folks would have grounded me for at least a month.......

And I am not exaggerating.....they took over the ship:rolleyes:......

(You asked)......I actually wrote a letter to Celebrity's HQ and so

did a few other people I sailed with.......I have never seen anything

like it before........

I wouldn't have liked that either! And I wouldn't have liked it when I was 20. So sorry that happened to you.

We are going to Alaska on the Solstice at the end of June. First time on a cruise, first time to Alaska. I am super excited! I just got myself a nice rain jacket at REI for trip.

Thanks so much. I am sure this one will be more of what I grown

accustomed to with Celebrity and I hope you have a great time too:)

REI...omg.....there is one of those stores not 5 minutes from where

I live......maybe I will hop over there tomorrow:)

Lois, I just returned yesterday from a 5 night sailing on the Brilliance out of TPA and there were almost no kids on board so it was a great trip - thankfully!

I wouldn't have thought that a Celebrity cruise during Spring Break would have been bad but I guess the drink packages offered lately changed that!

I hope you have a fabulous cruise in Alaska :D

Linda, hi:)....and it seems my cruise was the ONLY ONE that it happened to.....I had read from folks who sailed before me AND after me and none

of those had issues:rolleyes:...and I would not have thought Celebrity would

have this on there either...I certainaly would NEVER have booked it

if I had known that 1,000 Spring Breakers would be on board:eek:...yes,

that number came directly from the Hotel Director....(Had to meet with

her while I was on board)......

Glad you had a good cruise:)

Hi Karen, wow, long time........nice to see you.

If you scroll through this forum and the Fashion Forum, you should

find plenty of information about clothing for Alaska cruises.....this will

be my 4th time there.

Oh, layering is the way to pack for Alaska:)

I will be taking my 1st Alaska cruise in Sept...have NO CLUE how to pack as I am used to doing warm weather cruises...should be interesting!:D

Packing should be interesting for us because we are driving up so it will be hot on the way there. And afterwards we are spending a few more days in Washington before going home. I've never had a vacation where I needed a coat, jeans, scarf, gloves, and shorts!

I was "practicing" this winter for summer in Alaska! Last summer we were in Florida. Exactly one year later to the day we'll be in Alaska. Talk about opposites!

Hi Lois,

Congratulations on going back to Alaska. You must be so excited :)

Have all your trips been with Celebrity? I've been researching at trip for September 2016 and it's come down to RC or Norwegian. I'm leaning more towards Norwegian just because they seem to be more solo friendly..

Thanks

Patty

Hi Patty:) I would say 99% of my cruises have been with Celebrity, yes.

Royal a couple of times, HAL once and Carnvial many, many years ago

(before I started cruising a regular basis).

Everyone has their preferences.......Celebrity has provided me with

an excellent product over the years and to be honest, "solo friendly"

doesn't mean much to me. I realize there are many folks who love NCL

and that is what makes life so good......we all have choices:D

As long as folks are friendly...that is what matters more to me..I really

don't care if there are other solo passengers on board. Actually many

of my close friends are married and I met them through cruising.

So when folks say a line is "solo friendly"......I think that means

different things to different people (just my opinion).

I do feel treated quite well on Celebrity and have no issues

with sailing solo (I choose to sail that way and I love it).....

But solo friendly as in "hanging out with others who are solo"...that

doesn't matter to me.

I've typically been a Royal girl but lately I've started to branch out to other lines.

It's nice to hear good things about other lines..

Hi again,:) I saw your other post but figured you wanted someone to reply

who has sailed both of those lines. I have never sailed with NCL so can't

help you with that one.

Hope you find the one you are looking for and have a wonderful cruise:)

Thanks Lois,

The more I research the more it looks like I'm going with NCL over RC.

No worries about not having sailed them, I'm so used to focusing on just RC that it's rather fun to look around and see what else is out there.

Again, hope you have a fantastic time on your trip. :)

Hi Lois!

We're on Solstice the last week of May and have never been to Alaska, though long time Celebrity. Any suggestions for excursions?

Thanks

Susan

Hi Susan:)...yes, while you are in Ketchikan I definitely recommend

this company..... www.islandwings.com I am using them for the 2nd

time. They book up quickly so if it looks fun to you, email them right

away:D
