Was the PT-109 Really in Tallinn Last Month

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the details. We figured that it wasn't the PT 109 but were surprised to walk off the ship and see an American naval vessel with that number. Sort of thought they would have retired the number due to its fame. Thanks again for the info.

As a general rule, the Navy doesn't retire numbers. In fact, you will see several current ships with the same number - my son's destroyer is USS Fitzgerald, DDG 62. There is also USS Chancellorville, a guided missile cruiser, CG 62. I hope the sailors on Dunham had some nice shore leave in Tallinn - it was one of our favorite ports on our Baltic cruise.
