We begin our land tour on August 25. We just received our hotel assignments........

Fairbanks = Rivers Edge Resort

Denali = Denali Park Village

Anchorage = Anchorage Hilton

They all look good.

Do you have recommendations for meals in each location?:confused:

In Anchorage we enjoyed dinner at Humpy's. Haddock fish and chips were very tasty.

For Fairbanks we enjoyed the Thai House on 5th street. We also ate at Sam's Sourdough Cafe, which was kind of homey; we enjoyed it.

Humpy's in Anchorage is a smart choice, and the walk is not too far. In Denali we enjoyed the Salmon Bake, though it may be too far from Denali Park Village for you without a car.

Thanks for the heads up! Downloaded my edocs again and there was a ton of info including the hotels.

We're at the Lakefront Anchorage- 1st and last night and the Denali Park Village.

Anchorage hotel has good reviews on tripadivsor, Denali does not.

And as a real kick in the head, our flight home departure time has been changed to 5 AM !?!?!?!?

The Denali Park Village, is a poor place to be without a car. So you are going to have to be very aware of shuttle options and plan carefully, they do not run often. Especially vital if using the Denali Park shuttle buses. BUT, getting to Wonder Lake is especially excellent to consider in this time frame. Just spectacular varied scenery even if Denali not viewable. Well worth the extra effort and inconvenience.

Anchorage Hilton is your most convenient location. River's Edge isn't any prize either without a car. Make the effort to at least do some touring??

Thankfully, the land tour includes multiple excursions each day.

The shuttle is mentioned because it is necessary for your meal options, if you don't want to eat at the Lodge. Unless all your meals are included with your tours? Hopefully you are on the Tundra Wilderness tour. Some consider that more an enhanced snack. There are eateries in all the lodges.

Meals not included. We are on the wilderness tour. We will check shuttles, but can eat in the Lodge if we have to.

Thank you

The River's Edge Resort on-site restaurant is Chena's Alaskan Grill. While the food was great in the past, two years ago it changed. The restaurant has the same executive chef but the meal quality has declined. We had dinner there twice last summer, and haven't even bothered to try it this summer. If the OP is happy with a hamburger it will be fine.

Both the Princess complex and Pike's Landing, the stand-alone restaurant associated with Pikes Waterfront Lodge, are about 1/2 mile away from the River's Edge Resort. The Princess has had a history of miserable food in the past to the point that few local folks ever go there, so I can't comment on the current quality. Pikes Landing has both a casual bar area located on their deck along the Chena River and more upscale restaurant.

The Denali Park Village is actually fairly close to one of the best restaurants in the state -- 229 Parks. But the Denali Park Village is not a convenient place to stay without a vehicle.
