Rome hotel

Between Rome city and the port and airport is really nothing. If you have 2 days, definitely go into Rome. You can train it both ways, or if you are not comfortable with handling your own luggage and being on a train in a foreign country, contact with one of the many car services listed in many threads here for your private transportation. If you stay out by the airport, you have to be sure your hotel offers either a shuttle into Rome (with good operating hours so you have enough time to enjoy Rome) or a shuttle to FCO so you can catch the Leonardo train to Rome and back.

Look in this forum for the hotel suggestions. Most like to be in the Centro Storico, near the "big" tourist attractions. Some like to stay out by the Roma Termini train station to be near the station. Some like to stay out by Vatican City. If we know a little more about what you want to do for those 2 days, we may be able to offer more information.

As slidergirl says, there is no real sense in staying between areas. If you have two days I would definitely recommend staying IN Rome. It's only about a 35-40 minute trip to the airport from the center of Rome, where most visitors choose to stay.

Depending on your flight time and your preferences, there are a number of ways to get to the airport from Rome. You can take the train, an express bus, a taxi, or you can pre-arrange a private car.

The taxis are a flat fare of 48 euro to the airport from any hotel in the central Rome area (roughly the area inside the old city walls). It's an easy way to go if you have a fair amount of luggage and/or if you have an early flight.

The cheapest way is the express bus -- cost is around 4-6 euro per person; most leave from near Termini, the main train station. So you'd either have to stay near there (not my favorite area of Rome) or get yourselves there to take the bus.

There are numerous posts here on taking the train as well, if you are interested I suggest a search using "train airport Rome" and you should find a lot of info.

looking at a Rome hotel after a cruise for a couple of days and then flying out. Something maybe, between the two areas. Not sure how long or how to get to the airport from Rome.

Go to Rome even if you only have 1 night and check Albergo del Senato. you will LOVE walking around the Pantheon area.

Have fun planing :)

Just spent two nights at Albergo Cesari near the Pantheon. Nothing fancy but clean, working AC and a nice rooftop terrace where they do breakfast and use it for a bar in the evening. Recommend highly.

Also great area near a lot.
