claire's mom Posted September 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) We will be in Maui on the Grand Princess in November. Looking for a snorkeling trip that starts after 830. We have to tender in, and we don't think we can make the ones that start at 8AM Edited September 26, 2016 by claire's mom
CruiserBruce Posted September 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) If you are tendering in, the marina you come ashore in will have lots of vendors for snorkeling trips, although they may not start their second snorkeling trip of the day until 12 or 1. The negative to snorkeling that time of day is the water can start to get a little choppy, and visibility may decrease. You might read the many threads here about Ka'anapali Beach, a great place to snorkel a short taxi ride away. Or you might try a Google search for Lahaina snorkeling vendors. We have to tender in' date=' and we don't think we can make the ones that start at 8AM[/quote']Bruce gave you good information on how to discover snorkeling options but it's probably going to be difficult to get an early trip & as Bruce said the conditions for afternoon trips likely won't be as good. I seem to recall reading that some ship snorkeling trips were picked up from the ship. Princess gives priority tendering to their elite level repeat passengers & those on ship's tours. Other passengers go to a restaurant to get a tendering group number & have to wait for their group to be escorted to a tender. The ship's arrival time is often not the same time as when the first tenders depart. They first need to take ship's crew ashore to get ready to receive passengers. I'd think that the odds of making a snorkeling trip before 9:00 are not good & that many snorkeling tours would depart Lahaina before 9:00. Depending on the payment & cancellation policy of an independent tour, you could lose your money & miss the trip. Also tendering can be either delayed or even cancelled so Maui might be a port where a ship's snorkeling tour might be the best option. FishinChris Posted September 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2016 We're going on the grand in November also and will be going out on the Hula Girl catamaran http://www.sailingmaui.com/Hula_Girl/snorkel-scuba.htm. They depart around 9:30 from whalers village. We will be scuba diving but most people just snorkel on this trip. claire's mom Posted October 7, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted October 7, 2016 I cannot say enough good things about how this store does business. I had originally been emailing them about renting snorkel equipment, as we arrive in port too late for most snorkel tours. They emailed me a few days ago, that they have just opened a Snorkel Safari tour 7 days a week, and it would be a private tour for my family of six. I found a coupon on facebook for 2 for 1 for October, and when I called they even honored that, even though my trip is in November. The coupon code is Safari. I had asked about their cancellation policy, which was 48 hours in advance. I had expressed my concern, as we may not be able to tender in for some reason. They offered me a guarantee to refund my money, if we cannot get off the ship. I highly their recommend their customer service. http://www.tripadvisor.com/6838921
