NCL has RUINED Belize for me

You can use your ship card for payment, and if you do then any OBC can be used to offset your charges, just like it is for anything else you buy.

I just talked with someone that got off the Getaway today. They're casino players. They said that CAS( casino at sea players club for NCL) will not comp any charges to your account from the island and that non redundable OBC cannot be used for purchases on the island either. None of those vendors work for NCL. NCL reimburses them for all purchases that are charged to the ship account. As a result, only refundable OBC can used for those purchases.

People need to accept the fact that Harvest Caye is private port stop, just like a private island. It is not a stop in Belize, even though the location is physically in Belize. When people accept this a lot of the angst that comes out in these threads will go away.

Been to Belize many times. OP is exaggerating the beauty of the reef. The snorkeling at Belize is the worst snorkeling on a western Caribbean cruise. IMO you miss nothing by not getting to snorkel near Belize City.

I beg to differ. The snorkeling at Coral Gardens/Shark Ray Alley/Hol Chan Marine Preserve was among some of the better snorkeling we've done in the W. Carib.

The wide variety of reef fauna w/ healthy corals. Swimming with nurse sharks and turtles. Spotting Eagle Ray,Morays and Manatees...Sea Horses/Tarpons etc. etc. etc.

I suspect someone with an opinion akin to above has never ever actually snorkeled the world famous reef offshore from Belize(2nd largest only to the GBR in Australia).

I had heard for some time that crime in Belize was getting out of control and the safety of cruise ship passengers were getting called into question. I suspect that had a pretty large impact on them creating their own island. I may be wrong.....

Princess, RCCL, Carnival etc. would likely face the same issues if crime was the driving force for NCL to spend milllions of dollars to create a fake resort in an environmentally sensitive area in the Belize area. Their tactics, as demonstrated in so many NCL threads, is to make money. Charges for lunch on this "port" is just another ploy for NCL to increase profits.

There are plenty of sailings into Belize City and we plan one this April.

I do not need NCL and after reading reports on this new port, I do not expect to sail NCL to the western caribbean. Crime is likely not the issue as all lines would stop sailing to the City and then locals would have to act to curtail the crime or face losing their best source of income.

On Harvest Caye, there was a nice chlorine pool and my kids enjoyed that and the splash pad there. The beach was just ok at best and the water was murky. I got bitten by sand fleas or mosquitos while there, even with bug spray. Zip line looked cool but it was $75 ($75 for kids). You could rent paddle boards by the hour for $25 or $39 for the boats. I was not impressed. However, I agree with the other poster who said you can't compare this as a Belize stop. It is NCL's private stop that just so happens to be physically located on Belize. This was a great day to sleep in a little, have a leaisirely breakfast, and get off the boat when you want to enjoy some time and do some activities off the ship at your pace.

yes you are wrong. 1.3 million tourists go to Belize each year and 30,000 expats live there.
