Bad traffic to Galveston July 27, 2014 down I-45 through downtown Houston!

Anybody traveling to Galveston today DO NOT travel down I-45 through downtown Houston. The freeway is shut down beginning at I-45 and I-10 until Monday morning at 5 a.m. and the traffic is awful! Take Loop 610 around downtown OR take Beltway 8 around the city.

We were suppose to drive down today

Glad Im stuck in SF:rolleyes:

Houston has been working on the freeway forever:eek:

My neice lives in Houston and said that she feels bad for the workers because they will have to finish that job in the dark...after all, the sun will burn out in about a billion years.

Houston is trying to accommodate a population of 6.2 million people (@2.4 million within city limits), growing daily.

Freeway construction and maintenance is a never ending chore.

There are huge numbers of people trying to go to the same locations at the same time.

It would help immensely if drivers would put their cell phones away while driving. Like that will ever happen!

It at least will be a lot cooler at night

Seems like where ever I drive in the Houston area they are tearing up old concrete and laying new or adding lanes

CA has a law about not driving and talking on phones.

Now I see alot just hold the phone with the speaker on:rolleyes:

BTW would it hurt yall from texas to put on a turn signal before changing lanes on the freeway:eek::confused:

But that would announce your intentions to the surrounding cars, thus giving them the opportunity to speed up and block you from moving into said lane. It's a Houston tradition . I'm married to a native Houstonian & he used to drive like that - probably still does if I'm not in the car, LOL.

Yes these simple efforts in Texas would help:

1. Like EUROPE with three lanes:

-Slow traffic to right lane

-ONLY passing lane in left lane THEN ALWAYS back to middle lane

-On going traffic in middle lane always

2. Use turn signals far in advance

3. No texting or use of cells on highways

4. No intoxication's while driving (beware of open container law)

If all of that came about, I might even get back on the freeways myself!

I'm for it !!

I remember in Europe

The only car that passed us was a Ferrari

And it was a like a rocket ,

Lisa regrets not picking her car up from the Factory and driving in Germay

Very few in the U.S. could handle the Autobahn or the Autodstrada:p

I would sure like to try:D

So we are driving down tomorrow to see if the roads have improved any.

We don't want any surprises at the end of the month for our cruise.

Also Ive heard the commuter lane is now opened on weekends.

Anyone know this is true?
