It's been a week since the misses and I came back from our vacation on the Getaway and work has kept me busy and I finally have the time to give in my observations of our trip on the Getaway.

I didn't have the luxury of taking off from work a day before the cruise so we hesitant in booking the airline flight for the same day but we had no choice. We were able to book the earliest flight out of Newark NJ on United and we arrive in Miami at approximately 10:15 AM. Since we did check our baggage we went to baggage claim and I noticed a rep. from NCL with a clipboard. So I went over and asked her reason of being there, in a nice way of course, and she stated that she was there to pick up the people who pre-paid their transfer to the port through NCL. She also stated that if I didn't pre-pay I can go sign up and there was still availability. The cost was $15 per person but we would have to wait for everyone to show up. So we just decided to take a cab. The cab ride was less then 15 mins and we were in and signed up at the desk and on the ship before 12 PM! We were shocked!

Since we have been on the Breakaway before, we knew the layout of the ship before hand. I will know categorized each section of the trip to try to make this as short and as readable as possible.

CABIN

We were in a Spa Balcony, cabin 14146. I started another thread on the issue that we had with getting into the thermal spa. The cabin was great and the bed by the closet. Everything was clean and towels were stocked and also given extra when asked. We always had ice and the steward was fantastic and I never bumped into him cleaning and was always friendly when I saw him in the hallway. Balcony is small but we were only out there when we arrived into ports and when we left. It was adequate for us. Bed was super comfy and pillows for to die for. TV was a flat screen but a little off to the right and hard to turn really if you need to see anything from bed. We were happy.

FOOD

We mostly ate breakfast and lunch in the buffet as it was just easier to grab, eat and go as we didn't want to waste any time waiting. The buffet was good in my opinion as there was a lot of choices and everything was hot as well. I really like the mac and cheese but the pizza was horrible. Chicken salad and the cheeses were great in my opinion. The only thing we didn't like was the desserts. Maybe not enough sugar or what not I just can't pinpoint what it was but we hated the desserts. Only thing I did have issues with was some people were very rude and just cut in front of you or eat while picking at food or grab with there hands. But I guess you can't have everything.

We ate lunch a few times at the Flamingo on deck 16. Great latin food.

For dinner we ate at Tropicana, Savor, Taste, and Teppanyaki. We had no issues with food at the complimentary as everything came on time and hot. Teppanyaki was good except the rice. I guess we weren't paying attention but he overloaded with garlic and everyone on the table hated it. But yet again we were on vacation and having a great time.

We did try the Noodle Bar but I was not impressed and I would pass on this.

Chicken pot pie in O'Sheehans was fantastic!

BARS

We had the UBP as a promo so we were loving just getting drinks and not worrying about the bill at the end. We never went over the allocated $11 limit and we had all kinds of drinks. We never had a long wait except by the Atrium when they were having an event there. Other than that all bartenders were great and didn't skimp on the alcohol.

POOL AREA

As everyone has said, pool is small for that amount of people but it didn't seem crowded to me. I am a early bird and was able to get chairs right by the bar with ease. The weather all week was fantastic except early morning on arrival to Nassau but it cleared up. I finally had the courage to do the free fall slide and boy was it fun and worth it.

ENTERTAINMENT

Burn the floor was fantastic and they had some great dancers. I didn't care too much for Legally Blond but my wife loved it. It wasn't bad per say but I guess I am getting old and it didn't really interest me. Groove international was fantastic with the live music. We saw the comedy of Mark Viera and he was GREAT. We reserved before the cruise but I noticed that everyone who was on the stand by line was able to get in. Casino was tight but I did see someone hit $2400 on Wheel of Fortune. Live music in the Tropicana and the Burn the floor dancers was a nice touch while having dinner.

Glow party and the fireworks were fantastic and always fun.

THERMAL SPA

Now, this was well worth the extra money. The hot loungers were great for our backs. The thermal pool was fantastic. Sauna, salt room, and steam room was fantastic. Locker rooms were clean and they had a lot of supplies of towels and robes for use. We would usually come here at around 1:30 after eating and just staying here and relaxing for a couple of hours. Well worth it.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Ship did not seem crowed and it was fully booked. Employees at Guest Service are completely useless and I see no reason having them there as I stated on my other thread. I noticed that the people who usually clean and work the restaurants and buffets are fantastic and managers just rude. Ship was clean and just had a nice vacation vibe to it. We had fun watching events at the atrium and watching sunsets at the water front.

PORTS OF CALL

St. Marteen - we took a cab to Maho Beach which cost us $8 per person. Definitely cheaper then what the ship was offering. This place was fantastic. The KLM flight coming in was intense and fun. Beach overall was good and we had a great day.

St.Thomas - We took a cab here as well to Megans Bay and this beach and water was fantastic. So calm and nice as we were able to snag a spot underneath a tree.

We did not get off the ship in Nassau.

Well there is goes. Sorry if I rambled all over the place but we had a great trip and would definitely do it again.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for your review! We are on the May 30th cruise. We have a spa balcony mini-suite booked just a little down from your room. We are 14156. Wondering if you ever heard any noise from the deck above? Like chairs moving or ping pong tables? I have read that before on here. Thanks again!
