runner15km Posted October 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2013 My hotel is just off 17th Street, would it be possible to run up to or on the bridge to snap some pics of the ships.

dreamer976 Posted October 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2013 Absolutely. If you ever watch portevergladeswebcam.com, occasionally they will keep camera #2 fixed on the bridge, which does raise and lower for larger craft, mostly sailboats, to cross under. There is a larger "pedestrian platform" just on either side of the moving center span during this time, something different to watch from up close! Florissouri Posted October 28, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2013 Just make sure you don't end up like the lady that got caught when the railroad bridge went up... http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/23683732/dramatic-drawbridge-rescue-caught-on-camera
runner15km Posted October 28, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks, I see sunrise is 6:40am for my sailing so I will get some nice sunrise/ship pictures. I will be running west to east but not over the bridge, don't want to get stranded on the beach side if the draw bridge is up. :D

Perhaps Blue Heron, royalcruz or someone else can tell us if their is a web site that we can find out that information.

Having got caught on the 'wrong side' of the bridge last week on the hour, I looked it up (GPO's Electronic Code of Federal Regulations): SE 17th Street (Brooks Memorial) bridge, mile 1065.9 at Fort Lauderdale. The draw shall open on the hour and half-hour.
