Suggestions for Split

I notice there is no category for Split, Croatia, but this looks like the logical place. Is the port very near the town? Can one see the best Split has to offer on foot?

Yes, Split is a great place to explore on foot. Some ships tender, and drop you right on the promenade. If you are docked, it's just a little further. There's no need to book an excursion unless you've been there before and have seen it all. I love the way Diocletian's Palace has been absorbed into the architecture, no such thing as building restrictions in the middle ages. I can't think of anywhere else quite like it.

You can easily explore on your own. Be sure to go into the lower level (basement) of the palace. We used Rick Steves' book as our guide.

We have Split on our Dalmatian coast itinerary next year and right now the focus is on getting to Krka National Park. Looks amazing.
