MSC Divina dress code questions

My wife and I are looking at booking a cruise on the MSC Divina for February 4, 2018. We are past cruises but never on MSC. Our question regards the dress codes. Is it true that women can't ever wear shorts in the public areas or is that just at night? And, how "formal are the formal nights?"

After 20 NCL cruises we were on MSC DIVINA thru Irma - our first MSC thanks to URCOMPED. We enjoyed, but had multiple bad experiences with customer service onboard. Captain did wonderful job keeping us safe thru the hurricane. Food mostly great, very few misses, shows wonderful but extremely repetitive . Beautiful ship with a friendly casino. Lots of spots for music onboard, but except for disco everything ended by midnight. Gala nights almost all men in suits and ties, some in tuxes. Women wore gowns to cocktail dresses. Free drinks at bars on floors 5,6,7 prior to dinner (nice touch ) other nights button down shirts for men and most women in sundresses, or dressed for the theme night. Gala and Italian Night ( wear red, white, and green ) had special dessert presentations, another nice touch. Free drinks at the meet and greet, black card party, and welcome back parties. They kept the champagne glasses full. Fun beautiful ship.

Safe sailing

You can wear shorts anytime and you can make formal nights as formal as you want but you don't have to wear formal wear.

I agree with spideybabe ^^^ above. I just got off the same ship and sailing. There was a big mix of formal, dressy, and casual. No different than other cruises, you see it all. Ship was pretty, checking at pier was fast, entertainment excellent, captain Marco was wonderful. They need a lot of work with dining room service and wifi was poor. Expect to hear every announcement in at least 10 languages [emoji15]

Here's the "suggested" dress code with what's not allowed indicated at the bottom:

"Formal" is as formal as you want it to be for you or as casual as you like as long as you stay within what's minimally permitted.

I see on that link that "Tank Tops" are not allowed in any indoor restaurant or buffet at any time?

In hot weather I tend to only wear strappy sleeveless tops and hubby also will sometimes wear sleeveless t-shirts ....never had a problem on Australian Cruise ships with them during the day and even at night for me with slightly smarter strappy tops, but not sure if that is what a "Tank Top" is called on MCS and if it is, how strict are they with that rule.

There is certainly a variety of 'dress' on Deck 14 in the Buffet and no one seemed to notice. I have seen men turned away from the Dining Room at lunch time who had tank tops/sleeveless tshirts on however women in tank tops, strappy dresses, etc. were allowed in- some men walk away quietly, change and come back while others feel the need to complain and make a scene.

Maybe things got a little lax with the dress code because we were on the extended Irma cruise but we were the 2nd seating in the Black Crab and I saw many men in the dining room with shorts. My husband wore shorts one night and no one said a word. One of my table mates wore a football jersey to dinner because he was going to the sports bar after to watch the game and again no issue. I saw plenty of women in sleeveless tops or dresses. Formal night there was a variety of "formal dress" I wore a dress and flat sandals and my husband wore a button down shirt and nice pants, we didn't feel under dressed at all. At the buffet anything goes, you'll see people in just their bathing suits there.

Thanks Cellfree ...We do dress accordingly at night for MDR, but in the day when you are round the pool and just hanging around its usually very casual and we usually only eat at Buffet during the day time too ......so if they are not toooo strict with that rule at Buffet and around Atrium coffee shops in the day we should be ok ;p
