melissa@cruisecritic Posted October 30, 2009 #1 Â Share Posted October 30, 2009 In honor of Halloween, we're taking a break from Oasis of the Seas and Disney Dream fever to take a look at former Cunard liner Queen Mary, launched in 1934 and now permanently docked in Long Beach as a floating hotel and historic attraction. It has been the site of so much paranormal activity that the facility now offers a daily ghost tour and a special effects show called Ghosts & Legends. Â We want to know: Have you ever seen a ghost or had something spooky happen to you at sea? Share your stories here ... and have a happy, haunted Halloween! PrincessE Posted October 30, 2009 #9 Â Share Posted October 30, 2009 I was on a Cruise West cruise once to Alaska. The Spirit of 98. She's a flat bottomed small vessel ship. Â She is reportedly haunted. One of the mechanics back when she was sailing under a different flag fell down the elevator shaft and is reported to haunt the ship. Â There were some funny things going on with the elevator. It would go to a floor it wasn't called to, it would open its doors when no one (downstairs or up) had pushed the call button. Â The ship just had a bit of a creepy feel to it. Nothing sinister, just something that made you walk more quickly to your cabin and caused you to wake up in the middle of the night wondering, "what was that sound?". I got up a few times in the middle of the night to double check the lock on the door. Â Great cruise line though. When you see a bear and yell "bear" from the railing, they stop! Very cool! Canuker Posted October 31, 2009 #11 Â Share Posted October 31, 2009 Well, no-one has yet named a cruise ship the "Marie Celeste". And I don't think there's a ghost of a chance they will! Â But I do recall walking into an on-board casino once and a voice said "Be afraid, be very afraid". Â Then there's the time we sailed with a skeleton crew... Boy, did the ship creak!
