According to cybercruises.com - Regal Princess will proceed to Singapore after departing Sydney 2nd Oct. & will undergo conversion at the Sembawang dockyard in the north of the island state to Pacific Dawn.
Not good news for the Brisbane cc'ers.

Bummer, Bummer, Bummer.
We were so excited. Now we will have to wait until March next year when we will be actually sailing on her.

Singapore refit for Regal Princess
Princess Cruises’ 1,590 passenger capacity Regal Princess is to enter Singapore’s Sembawang Shipyard this October for a near month-long refit which will see the vessel transformed into Pacific Dawn for operation by P&O Cruises (Australia) Ltd. When she re-emerges from the Singapore yard at the end of October this year Pacific Dawn will be the Australia’s first ‘Super Liner’ and the most modern cruise ship ever based year-round in the country.

Northern Ireland-based cruise ship outfitting specialist Mivan has secured a £600,000 contract to carry out work on Pacific Dawn, both in Singapore and on the voyage from Sydney to Singapore, where Mivan will be stripping out the ship’s existing Café del Sol, Poolside and Teenage areas before refitting these areas with new furniture manufactured in Northern Ireland.

Earlier this year Mivan completed a three-week fit out contract for Germany’s Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven aboard Ocean Villages’ new Ocean Village Two and the Northern Ireland-based outfitting specialist is currently quoting on some additional refit work in Hamburg for a major cruise ship client. Mivan expects to be very busy in 2008/2009 as it is currently quoting on £10m of refit work on five cruise ships.

Plus some links to look at pics of current decor. Hope the refit truly "Australianises" the ship for sub-tropical South Pacific cruising

Thanks for the info, hope the refit of the "Poolside" doesnt mean taking away the pool bar

It does look great. Although I must admit, I'm glad they're changing the casino to a bar/lounge area. I'm so looking forward to sitting in there with a drink just watching the world go by. Wouldn't be doing that if it was still a casino. And although there will no longer be a cinema (doesn't worry me anyway) I'm glad they're changing that to kids area because the kids area on the Regal looks extremely small.

I understand that the return leg from Singapore to Sydney will have a large numbers of TA's and VIP's on board - it will also give the mostly new crew time to have a "shakedown run" prior to the inaugural cruise ex-Sydney on Nov 9

We can't beleive we will be on it - 8 weeks tomorrow - and in a balcony cabin.

When we booked, back in June 2006, we had no idea it would be the maiden voyage. All we saw was 75th anniversary and 14 day cruise.

Remember, they cancelled the first couple of cruises and ours is now the first one.

If you have a look at our roll call it has had 500+ postings. This is truly amazing and shows our excitement. We can't wait and log in each day to do the happy dance.

56 days and counting........

I couldn't believe it but a friend (carpenter) of ours is working on converting the Regal to the Dawn. He leaves from Sydney, works on the way over to Singapore and has been told he will be in Singapore for 3 weeks and then flys home. I am thinking about getting him to ring us if he knows it's taking longer than they expect.

Sally, do you reckon he'd take some photos of it while under re-fit for all of us CC addicts if you asked him real nice?

I think you will find with the pool, that they will be ripping out the pool bar and installing a waterslide, like on Pacific Sun.
It will be interesting to see how the Cafe Del sol will turn out. I liked how it was, but thought that all it needed was a bit of a spruce up.

You know how your skin goes when you have been in water too long.
Maybe they heard of our cocktail habits and decided it would be a bad idea to have the bar stools filled with water wrinkled prune people who had obviously been propping up the pool bar all afternoon. What a sight.

Personally I think it is a great idea. More people with enjoy the water slide than the pool bar, but since there are two pools, is there room for both?

I really enjoy sitting on deck and watching everyone go down the slide. There are often competitions to see who is the fastest and who makes the biggest splash with resultant cheers. It's fun.

A water slide into the poolbar - now that would be an interesting combo. Can't see it marked on PDs deckplans though.

Cheers

Yes, but that could be your aim for the 28 days Geri........perfect the art of sliding with coctail in hand. When you realise at the start how much you're spilling...it won;t take long to learn
