lrcruising Posted September 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2017 We will be sailing next July on Oceania Riviera and we are wondering which side we should pick for out suite for the best views....here are our ports of call: Athens, Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini, Valletta, Messina, Amalfi, Ajaccio, St. Tropez and Barcelona. Thanks in advance for any suggestions for any or all of the above.:)

There are so many variables involved in how the ship will be positioned in port, that it is wiser to choose your cabin based on what position you desire on the vessel than to worry about ports. Rare ronrick1943 Posted September 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Jim & Stan are so right. I just knew the ship will always park front in first making the right side (looking forward) of the ship the port side. What a fool I was. Just pick your cabin as they say. Travelcat2 Posted September 12, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2017 Agree that it makes little difference in terms of views but I would pay attention to which side of the ship the sun sets on most often and would avoid that side. July is typically very hot in the Med. and even air conditioning has difficulty keeping up with it - especially when it was setting. Even the tables in the far aft of the ship in specialty restaurants (Marina and Riviera) can get uncomfortably warm at dinner.
Rare Caroldoll Posted September 12, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2017 I prefer the hottest side of the ship in the afternoon as there is where I get my tan. On O ships on OS we have the entire back of the ship so it is fine.
Hambagahle Posted September 13, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2017 Makes no difference where the sun sets - the ship may well be moored facing the other way. And very probably you will be in port in the daytime and sailing at night... Mediterranean cruises are very "port intensive".
