Falmouth with kids

We are cruising March 12-17 on Royal Carribean with out 2.5 and 6.5 year old. We had planned to do the dolphin experience with them. Just the 15 minute one not the swim but read a poor review about the amount of time you actually get and no time to enjoy the beach etc. Plus an hour long bus ride there and back.... so we decided to maybe not do that.

Our thoughts are to either stay a board the ship and explore that day with the kids or to see if it can be a date day with my husband and myself and figure out if the kids can stay in the daycare/camp for a chunk of the day while hubby and I go snorkling (something we love to do but can't really do this trip with kids).

Is there anything else in Falmouth that we can do with the kids that isn't $100 each just to stay on a beach at a resort? I don't want to spend 400-500 just for a beach day.

I've heard you don't really want to roam on your own either. Any suggestions or experiences from other parents?

Would love to hear some answers for this too, so *bump* :)

If you don't do an excursion I would make the day a sea day and stay on board the ship.

We prefer not to stay on board - is there a walking tour or anything like that we could do with kids?

There should be several kid-friendly options offered through your cruise line. I've looked all over, and it appears that walking around Falmouth solo isn't the best idea .. nor safest.

I'm looking for ideas too. Been to Ocho Rios a couple times now and won't get off the boat there anymore unless I'm going to a resort on a day pass. Hoping Falmouth is different!

Based on everything I've researched and read via cruise forums, Falmouth really isn't a great port unless you're willing to do an excursion of sorts, similar to Ocho Rios. Hope you get better response from others.

Are only ships excursions safe? I had been looing into the jamaican culinary tours.

Looking at the Satellite map, there looks to be an undeveloped beach right beside the cruise ship port. Has anyone just went to that beach? Is it accessible to the travelling public?

I wonder what did the OP end up doing at Falmouth? It's one of the stops on my Sept. 4 cruise and I have a 3 1/2 yr old and 5 1/2 yr old.

We're set on the dolphins--though, we have quite a bit of time before we sail.

Within the secured port area the use of the pool at Margaritaville is at no charge. There will only be a charge for any drinks and food you order. :)

We took the excursion Red Stripe beach. It was a small beach but clean. 10 drive from port - a little bumpy bus ride but for $30 it was perfect.
