likestorelax Posted November 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Our ship will stopping for about 5 hours in Old San Juan Puerto Rico. Has anyone gone to the Casino that is "across" the street from the pier? I think it is a Sheraton. If so, what was it like?
Tutontow Posted November 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2014 It is just okay IMHO. It struck me as dark, dingy and dirty. We did okay on blackjack. Quite frankly I wouldn't go back. We are pretty much BJ players so I can't comment on anything else.
likestorelax Posted November 9, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted November 9, 2014 Thanks for the feedback. We only have a few hours in port and do not want to do an excursion. We just though we might pop in and try our luck.
negn Posted November 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2014 It does seem small and older ,but did quite well on the slots the last 2 times there
likestorelax Posted November 10, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted November 10, 2014 We are slot players too and we anticipate tight slots on the ship. We were hoping to have some luck in port. Thanks for the feedback.

skeeter195 Posted November 14, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 14, 2014 We(six of us) stayed there the night before a cruise in 2005. We had a fun time walking around town then went to their casino around midnight. It was very quiet with maybe 10 people playing slots, a roulette table going and 2 black jack tables going. I was playing big and went down about $2000 in twenty minutes or so. I then got hot, got my money back and was up $2360. How do I know this number? They swithced dealers at that point, then before another card was dealt they called for the decks to be changed and that it would be about 5 minutes. We got up and went to the cage to cash in. The floor person asked why we were leaving, I laughed. When I got to the cage, I had to wait about five minutes for my money, it seemed like they did not have enough to cover my chips. I finally got it and we went to bed. I had a tough time sleeping. I had the feeling that someone was going to come to my room and ask for the money back. Once on the ship the next day we all had a good laugh about it. Overall I did not have a good vibe about this place.
luvs2beachit Posted November 18, 2014 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2014 Stayed at that hotel a few years ago and played the slots. I did great! Got on the ship the next day and donated all my wins to the cruise casino. Gee, I wonder how that happened???:(
Djptcp Posted November 21, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 21, 2014 DH and I will be in San Juan next Wed. on the Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam. We have been to SJ a number of times, so thought we would stroll around Old San Juan and stop at the casino. We are in port until 11pm, so the ship's casino won't be open until after we sail and that is kinda late to be going to the casino, for me anyway. Interesting to read everyone's comments - some loose, some tight which is about par for opinions. We have been in some interesting and small casinos in Curacao. St. Maarten, etc. that seemed rather questionable, too. Oh well, we'll give the Sheraton a try next week.
Life is Good Cruising Posted November 22, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 22, 2014 Whenever we're in OSJ for the day, we always stop in the casino at the Sheraton and play for about an hour. Found the slots to be a bit looser than the slots on a cruise ship.
likestorelax Posted November 22, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted November 22, 2014 Good luck to whoever is going to OSJ next week. Just leave a couple winning pots for us we will be there in a little over two weeks.

It took almost an hour to pay her, but she walked away with her winnings.
